Seething envy...I usually talk myself out of posting want ads about halfway through. You've inspired me to just pull the trigger (next time funds are in order, of course).

Ask and ye shall receive...I put a want ad on Craigslist for old touring bikes, and voilà: 1951 Raleigh Clubman, with dynohub and lights, for $50. I'm kinda psyched about this one. It's pretty rough at the moment, but I think it'll clean up nicely. I'm not normally a stickler for accurate restorations, but this one seems worth it; I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for y'all soon!

Thanks! The really wacky thing: my original plan was to get an '80s Japanese frame and build up a 3-speed pseudo-Clubman. But then the real thing dropped in my lap.
Robbietunes, I might just be forced to join EC Velo now, so I can live up to the bike's name!

Awesome, Grim. I now know of 4 different brands that marketed a Terry frame:
1-Centurion Ironman Terry, Tange 1, full 105 2x6, unsure of the wheelset. Exceptional one on eBay went for $382. The infamous "jammin' salmon" paint scheme. BF member East Hill (on break). Also on velospace by churz.
2-Nishiki Prestige (Terry), Tange 2, full Suntour Cyclone/5000 2x6 indexed, Araya rims, unsure of size. BF member smoothness.
3-Jeanie Longo (Terry), unsure of details. A guy built it for his girlfriend, she got it in the split. He PM'd me on velospace.
4-Terry "Gambit" above, 27/24 Arayas, Shimano Light Action. HiTen. Set up like a Centurion Lemans. BF member Grim.
4a-Terry "Despatch" above, 700c/24, and Suntour Cyclone 7000 setup. 1986, RobbieTunes
Would be cool to see more, maybe thread 'em.

I have two of these Terry bikes in my shop now. A pink Despatch and a green and red Precision frame. Cool looking bikes with the 24" front wheel.

Forgot to mention, Mount Dora is a really old town with antique stores everywhere. Finding old bikes around here is like finding penny's in a walmart parking lot. People bring them here all the time to have some restoration work done. It keeps me interested and it's a nice break from the everyday Carbon clones that you see everyday.
I have a thread started about some old Fender bikes that were dropped off to be cleaned and sold. I need to find info on them if anyone can help.

This was my find today. It is a Fuji Ecco, all Shimano 105 components, brakes, hubs, levers, cranks, all of it. Almost perfect condition, just a light scratch or two in the paint. Anybody know much about this bike? Sticker says "feather". Beautiful bike, I think it may be a little small for me though, shall see.

Nice catch! 1 YEAR ONLY BIKE!
They only sold that bike in 1987.

Says that bike came with a color matching pump and water bottle cages.

From the racetrack to pulling the beerwagon ! Great find, have fun. I especially like the *** Shimano triple crank , do you get a decent chainline ?

Found this Sekai 1000 at GoodWill today for $14.99.......Suntour 7 derailluers, steel rims, Sekai hubs, Tange high tensile butted frame, steel rings with alloy arms. It's a little big for me but looks like an ideal candidate for a >>cringe<< conversion with no hanger, square taper BB, alloy bars and stem and decent paint. It should clean up nicely.

Well, I really tried to thin the heard but when I was throwing the remants of a damaged frame into the recycle bin I just had to take a look inside. There I found this mid-80's Stumpjumper. It's in fine shape with one small exception. The cranks were loose when I found it and it turns out the fixed cup was broken. After about 10 minutes with a dead blow hammer I got it out. Even though it had 1.37x24 stamped on it I had to check the direction several times - it just didn't want to turn. Finally, it started to come out but it didn't turn freely until there was about 1 thread of engagement left. Turns out the cup itself was cracked. The threads are slightly munged up but not bad and it looks like a simple re-tap will make it good as new. I think it's been broken for some time as the wear on the cups and spindle showed a funny one-sided pattern.
Included in the deal is a nice set of (180mm) Specialized cranks with rings in very good shape, a pair of XT cantilevers and a Deerhead FD. The Specialized label BB is obviously toast.
The frame is surprisingly light for a mtb this size and is double-butted CrMo with lugs and horizontal dropouts. This one might be fun.

Almost C&V Worthy?
Hi there, I'm new to the forums but not to seeking out cheap or free bikes. I'm sure if I had known about this thread earlier you all might know me by know as the guy with a fetish for steel frames from obscure Japanese companies (I've salvaged a Shogun 2000, a Zebra-Kenko Thunder and a Maruishi RX-6: all found in trash/abandoned). Well today I found something a bit unusual for me for two reasons:
1. It's not Japanese
2. I actually paid for it
But I still think I made out pretty well. It's a late 80's early 90's cramerotti steel frame with really nice lugs. It's also the lightest steel frame I've ever had in hand. I got some clip-less pedals in the deal as well.
Anyone know an easy way to replace the brake cable tube that runs through the frame? I'm currently overhauling the whole bike but am afraid to take the tube out without knowing how to get another in.

Bicycle Repair Man !!!
Replacing an internally routed cable is rather easy...
Remove the old cable and cut the new cable to the same length, finish the ends so they are clean.
Take a full length brake cable and insert it into the new housing and run that into the frame, fish it out at the open end, and pull the new housing through.
