Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Giant crash replacement program not worldwide?

So I've read on the internet that Giant is supposed to have a 50% discount on frames and forks for crash replacement. Is this true for the US? I rang around today and asked a few LBS' (I'm in Australia) and they were all surprised and said that this was the first time they have heard of such a thing by Giant. One even called up a Giant sales rep and said that Giant does not offer such a program.

Can these things be region specific?

Email Giant and ask them. I got a reply from a Giant rep within 24 hours of my email.

I've got my bike on my house insurance with accidental damage cover for everything including the bike. Covered always except racing, costs me about 40 bucks a month(on top of contents premium) through NRMA.

Yes, they can be region specific. Not speaking to the bike industry specifically, but importers are often separate companies from the actual importer, although usually owned by the manufacturer. So company X may make a widget, but company X USA (or sometimes company X North America) imports it, markets it, provides customer service, and warranty support.

Don't know how Giant is structured but it's pretty common so I would not be surprised if they were similar. On a side note, this is sometimes why prices are wildly different between regions, and it's what makes some products "gray market".

How did you get the contant information for Giant? I checked their website 2 weeks ago when the cable bracket on the chainstay broke off and I wanted to find out how to get it repaired. I couldn't find any "Contact Us" link so I had to work it through the shop where I bought the bike.
Anyway, I'll be interested in hearing if they do in fact offer a 50% discount on a replacement frame for a bike that's been crashed. I never heard of such a thing, only that Giant will replace a damaged frame that resulted from "normal riding" (i.e. the bike was not crashed).
It might be to my advantage to have a "minor crash" if it'll help get me an SL frameset. Not that i would ever do that, but if I did crash the bike I'd like to know I could get a replacement frame at 50% off.

$480 a year to insure a bike that's worth how much?

And attached to a Homeowner's policy upon which you really do not want to make a claim against?
