Favorite tires?

My go-to tires are usually vredestein ricorsos for training, and conti attack-force for races, but neither of these seem to fit my first C&V build.

What are your favorite tires?

Continental GP 4000's. Used to be Michelin Pro Race 2's, but they discontinued those and came out with an "improved" Pro Race 3. They aren't as good as the 2's were.

I've got Hutchinson Fusion Tour de France tires on my Gitane Sprint and Bianchi Trofeo. I have run Hutchinson's for the past three to four years and really like them.

For tubulars I like Velofleex Criteriums or Conti Competitions. Conti Sprinters after that.

Clinchers I like Veloflex Pave's, Conti GP 4000's.

They all seem to hold up reasonably well.

I like semi-affordable wheels. My favorites are...

27"/700C/26" - Panaracer Pasela
650B - Panaracer Col de la Vie

As you see I am a Panaracer fan. I also just saw that Niagra has the Col de la Vie's on sale for $10 each. I don't even need any right now but feel like I should pick some up.

1-Continental Attack/Force, hands down, for fast training and racing.
2-Vittoria Team Pro Open Chrono II (no longer made)
3-Michelin Pro Race 2 (value for the money, often heavily discounted)

Cheaper tires:
Panaracer Stradius Pro when they're on sale for 14.99

So what is available in 700c x 25-28 that looks perfect on a late 80s bike?

Oh, and works okay and preferably doesn't cost a lot.

Am I going to have to go with the Pasela?

For me it's my vintage pair of Vittoria Servizio Corsa 21mm tubulars. Best riding tires I've ever had by far. I'll replace them with Veloflex tubulars, which are supposedly similar.

I find that the best performance/value tire is the Panaracer Pasela in any size. The best riding clinchers I own are Grand Bois Cypres. Amazing blend of comfort and speed.

I really like them, the ones I have aren't exactly C&V (i.e no gumwall) but they roll beautifully, go on
straight, have no bumps lumps or other deformities. For a while they were fairly easy to find and
cost about the same as a conti sprinter. Then I guess word got out or something and the suppies dried
up and the cost seemed to increase. I'd put them on a par with the Veloflex tires.
Biketiresdirect https://www.biketiresdirect.com/pgoes...ar_tire/pp.htm
has them on sale ($69 USD each).

Michelin 'Krylion' (used to be called 'axial carbon'-something) - black with just a thin coloured line - très tasteful!

Panaracer Stradius Pro when they're on sale for 14.99, which is often. EddyR just put a set on his 7-11 Ironman, and they look great.

Panaracer Pasela Tour Guard (TG). A few bucks more than regular Paselas, but highly flat resistant.
