Fine player, too. PBS did a great documentary on him that I'm fortunate enough to own a copy of. Thanks for posting.

Cool guy.
Heavy guitars, he didn't like them light.
SG man, myself.

I'm a C&V guitar guy too. Have an old Les Paul and an SG.
I feel fortunate to have seen Les Paul play his weekly gig in NYC a number of times over the years. He was quite a character and pioneer in the early days of electric guitar.

1983 Cherry Sunburst, gold frets and hardware. Heavy body, light action....
DeMarzio pickups, a little more red, but otherwise, like the one below, basically.
Showed a Marshall stack w/750 amp, but mic'ed a Peavy 2x10 BW behind it, few people figured that out.

Steel is real, baby!
Here's mine:
I swapped out the Zebra Duncans for some very nice Antiquities. Very sweet guitar. I love her.
Adios Les! It's been a wonderful ride!!

The guitars that bear his name aren't really up my alley (I like stuff that's a little more out there), but he truly was an electric guitar master. Sad.

I pilot Stratocasters. But man, from "The Log" to echo, to overdubbing, and on and on, he pioneered sooo much. A genius and a fine player too.

Well, I'm more of a Dreadnought kind of player... but man! To have a guitar named after you, that's cool; to have it be the guitar played by most great guitarists, that's amazing.
But Dan, I believe you're wrong, Les Paul was from 'Sconsin.
And to anyone who's sad about this... well, the remembrance is appropriate. But let's put this in perspective: he was active and productive well into his 90's, still enjoying a reputation based on things he did as a young man. Imagine what it must have been like, watching his inventions being used by younger players through the 60's and later... what a great life!
Nothing to be sad about, except that I never saw him in concert. My bad.

He invented Multi-track recording, which probably had a bigger impact than any of his other inventions combined. A true Pioneer!

Really glad I saw him a few years ago at the Iridium. Like rhm said, how many people get to go on doing what they love into their 90s? He had a great run.

"Heh, I bought a '53 Gold Top in 1994 for $217 after tax in a western Arkansas pawn shop. Thanks Les Paul!"
West Arkansas, Wal-Mart pricing....lucky dog. Figure 5-10x that now.
I happened to be in Waukesha last summer for the Les Paul shindig (it flooded there and I was on storm duty-and yes, I expensed it).
I'm going to get his '76 CD with Chet Atkins, listen to it a few dozen times...
great bike forum, eh?

I caught one of his weekly gigs in NYC back in '94. What was the name of the place again? Amazing evening.

Always been more of a Fender-person myself, but hell, yeah, the man started everything really, didn't he! Anyway, I'm always telling people the 20th century basically produced two REALLY important inventions : the racing bicycle and the electric guitar! so there! R.I.P. Les Paul!

damn now both the proverbial electromagnetic tinkerers have passed
could you imagine the conversation if you got Les Paul and Leo Fender in the same room the things these guys knew and without huge educations either
