I'm looking for this specific page of the 1990 catalog. This one is BARELY too blurry for me to read. I can make out the majority of it, Croce d'Aune parts, but I'd love to be able to read it all. If anyone has a better monitor resolution and can provide a 'translation', heck that's cool too!

My USA 1990 catalog only has the Mondial as a frameset. I have attached a copy of the 1990 Superleggera and the 1989 Mondial pages.

In 1989 and 1990 Bianchi used the same Columbus SLX frame (SPX on larger sized frames) for a number of different models: Giro, Super Leggera, and Mondiale.

The difference was in the components and the model name on the top tube: Giro - Campy Athena, Super Leggera - Campy Chorus and Mondiale - Campy Croce d'Aune.

The Mondiale was available as a bare frame but there was no model name decal.

A bunch of the local CR members were Bianchi fans. I was suffering from Celeste envy so in 2007 I picked up a 1987 or 88 Bianchi Giro. It had about 50-100 miles on it and came with a Campy Victory gruppo. The frame was made of Bianchi Columbus Formula 2 tubing which may have been a mix of SL and SP.

Anyway, the bike fit me perfect and the handling was great but it was heavy and rode like a tank.



Jump ahead 4 years, I found an NOS 1990 Bianchi Mondiale bare frame that had been sitting in a box at a LBS for 20 years.



I took it to a locale frame builder friend to check the alignments. It's the same size and has the same geometry as my Giro.

I was thinking that SLX tubing was lighter than SL and that would make it a much smoother riding bike than the Giro.

My friend pointed out that SLX seat and down tubes plus the chain stays were ribbed and it was going to be a stiff ringing bike. He was right!!!

It's considerably lighter than the Giro and has the same great fit and handling but I wouldn't want to put in more than about 30 miles on it. The bike climbs great and I built it with a mishmash of Campy components including a Competition triple.

Even though the workmanship is not as nice as the Giro it's one of my favorite bikes (for shorter rides).

You are all welcome. I had vertigo yesterday (never had it before!) and had to cancel out of my rides so was riding the forum which I don't do on a regular basis.

Interesting you take on riding the Bianchi Giro. My experience of steel Bianchi's, though I have only ridden a few, is they are stiff and ride almost to the point of being dead but not quite. Even my light weight Boron XL frame had a bit of that. Not a bad ride, just distinctive. Boron XL cracked like they all see to do. :-(

I've ridden the Giro and the Mondiale and can attest to the giro being a tank, although it is a pretty bike. I like the Giro for longer rides,but I'm always partial to the Monidale with SLX tubbing. I ride mostly river beds and boardwalks so maybe the stiffness doesn't affect me as much. Its also very responsive and quick.

A LBS is an old Bianchi dealer... They have lots of classic Bianchi stuff.

I haven't had the Giro out for over a year.

Between the 1990 Mondiale and my 1981 Campione Del Mondo, the Giro "sits on the bench" a lot...



Those 2 Bianchis are on my top ten favorite list...

I like the '81- reminds me of my '82 Nuova Racing! A great bicycle. Even if it isn't top-of-the-line.
