Bianchi Id help
Hi all
Been awhile since I have posted. Need some help with this Bianchi I am looking at. I think it is late 80's until I get to the fork. Probably a repaint. Serial number could be 10347. Other side says 6B. I think it is real based on the engravings. It is on an auction site which may mean someone else nabs but I am not committed to it.
thanks! Jim

Having played this same, frustrating game of "ID my Bianchi" recently, here are the tidbits I gleamed from the C&V Bianchi gurus. The serial number 6B would indicate an 1986 produced frame which matches with the TT brake cable guides. The rear drop outs are Gipiemme. I agree that the frame is a Bianchi given the panto'd seat stay caps. The lack of a brazed on FD would put the frame down the hierarchy somewhat, but that's a guess from a Bianchi novice. The chrome chain stay is throwing me a curve to which I can't make sense. The DT decal is late 80's which is inconsistent with the S/N production year, but if you think the frame was repainted, then they could be reproductions decals. Plus there are no other decals or fragments other than the HT logo. (Why-o-why didn't Bianchi clear coat over the decals? This would have been easier!) Since my frame features only had me focused on three models, I am going to be of limited help. There are others more knowledgeable on the various Bianchi models so hopefully they'll chip in.

As noted in the previous post, the serial number indicated a 1986 model but the logo decal indicates later, specifically 1988-1989.
Assuming 1986 and USA market, the fork decal, which is Bianchi Formula Two, indicates a Trofeo or Vittoria. However, the chrome fork and chainstay are discrepancies. While the fork could be a replacement, the probability of someone bothering to chrome the chainstay would seem small. There were a couple of higher 1986 models with a chromed chainstay but they had a brazed-on front derailleur mount.
Alternatively, one could assume 1989 and that the '6' is a '9' that was stamped upside down. That would explain the decal but again, the chrome fork would be an anomaly. Additionally, the chrome chainstay only appears on the top model which had a front derailleur brazed-on mount. Finally, the embossing on the seat stay caps had been eliminated, in favour of cheaper decals.
The last possibility is a foreign/non-USA model. Models for other markets often varied from those offered in the USA. For instance, the Canadian models sometimes used fully chromed forks as seen on the subject bicycle. Based on the frame features I'm seeing, that is direction in which I'm currently leaning..
What we do know is that it is legitimate Bianchi based on the embossing. It is also Italian manufactured, based on the serial number. It is no earlier than 1986, based on the presence of Gipiemme dropouts. It is pre-1991 based on the down tube being round at the BB end. It should be 1986 based on the serial number. Frame features point towards a mid-range model.

Thanks T-mar and triplecrank92. Pretty much hit similar issues looking at my catalogs though I missed the braze on detail. I don't need another bike but no longer have a vintage bianchi. Just 2 modern carbons and a modern steel tipo Corso, which rides better than I expected. Loved the way it looked. Now to decide...
