Stuck Cassette

I have a 10 cog cassette on my Record Triple, and tried removing it using the Park FR-11. It was skipping, and would not budge the cassette lock ring. I noticed that the same tool made by Campy had longer teeth, or it seemed to me, so I ordered that. It skips also. I've never had this problem with a cassette or freewheel, although my experience is limited. I would rather not take apart the hub/axle. Is there hope?? Pictures to follow. Thank you.

The lock ring looks buggered. You can use a drift or flat blade screwdriver and beat it off.

There have been cases where I am in too much of a hurry to put the QR in to help keep the tool in place, and the removal tool seems to slip, but it's really just losing engagement as it twists.
Give it another try with the QR skewer in, and see if that helps. The lockring splines DO look a little chewed up.

I forgot to add that I put the QR in on the Park one, but not the Campy one. I will give that a go, although I am thinking I may be doing what shelbyv suggests. Thanks.

Maybe see if the skewer will hold the lockring in place and then use the wrench on it. Or find a piece of all-thread rod with nuts and washers to run through the axle and hold the tool in place. If it skips then, then I'd be all for stuff that might be destructive to the lock-ring, like a hammer and punch with blows directed in the proper direction to loosen it.

But you'll need more hands or some fixture to lock it in place.

Maybe lay the wheel on the floor, wrap the chain whip and hold the handle with a foot or knee while you whack on the lock ring.

Put the lockring tool in a vice that's firmly attached to a work bench. Set the wheel down on the tool, wrap your fingers around the handle of the chainwhip and a spoke or 2 and turn it counter clockwise as you're looking down on it. Skewer if needed to hold the tool in the lockring.

I did that cx. I ramped down the QR, clamped the tool in the vice, and the same skipping of the lockring. I think violence is the only answer. I only want to take it off because I wanted to throughly degrease it. I just did that with it on. I will wait until it needs to be changed, then get to it. That thing must really be on there. Thank you for the replies.

BBT-5 / FR-11: 12 splines, 22.8mm diameter. Fits all Campagnolo® cassette lockrings (including 11-speed) and splined, 12-tooth Campagnolo®
bottom bracket cups.
FR-5.2G: 12 splines, 23.5mm diameter. Fits Shimano®, SRAM® (including 1x), SunRace®, Sun Tour®, Chris King® and other cassette lockrings.
Also fits some disc brake lockrings with 12 internal splines. Guide pin stabilizes tool.

Maybe the FR-5 will fit?
I'm not familiar with Campy stuff, but the "CS" on the lock ring kind of raises a red flag to me since my Shimano cassettes have CS in the model.

Thanks, Bill. I have a FR5.2 that doesn’t fit, and for the FR5.2GT, I would have to take the axle out. And still not know if it will fit. I have in my brain that Campy has sealed bearings, and opening them up might not be a good thing. At least, I have never messed with Campy bearings. Appreciate it.

Maybe a bit of tedious filing with a small triangular (or whatever else works) file and make the lock ring fit the FR 5.2?
Sounds like it's going to be a destructive removal eventually, but maybe you can salvage?
