Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

2008 Cannondale CAAD9 105

Does anybody still ride the 2008 CAAD9 105? I've been looking at buying a road bike for a few weeks but my budget is pretty low ($1000) and I want a bike with 105 components. Someone just posted a CAAD9 105 2008 model for $650. Is this a good value and a good bike even though its getting up in age? The bike apparently has about 3000 miles on it and needs new tires. Should I jump on it if I can drop the price to $550 or wait for a newer model to show up?

Trying to haggle is always good, but if it's in solid condition then $650 is not too shabby at all. Is the frame size right for you?

I've test road a 54cm CAAD10 105 a few days ago and it rode like a dream. Unfortunately, I cant find a CAAD10 on craigslist within 300 miles of my location.

That's a good price for a great bike. MSRP was around $1300. If it's in good shape you won't do much better. $550 would be a start, but I doubt the seller will come down that much. It will also probably need a new chain.

Im just worried that by the time I add a new chain and new tires that I could wait and get a newer bike bike for around the same price. Also its approaching 5-6 years old. Should I be weary about how many miles have be ridden on a used bike?

If it's undamaged it will be fine.

You can get a couple of good tires and a chain for $100 or less.

$550 wouldn't be a bad price at all. Here is the blue book on it. https://www.bicyclebluebook.com/searc....aspx?id=12618

If you would rather have something new here is a bike just a smidge out of your budget with a current 105 group https://www.performancebike.com/bikes...400315__400315
