Both bought as framesets, tho the Olympian's Nervar crank may be original as the seller had several. Huret shifters & derailleurs on the Olympian, the Vent Noir (purchased many years later) was a mix of Campa, Stronglight and Zeus bits. The Olympian proved to be the keeper.
edit: @Strawbunyan - I will check with my brother, outside Nashville, to learn if he still has the mid-1970s (?) Olmo hanging in his garage. Not in great shape and may be too small for a 6 footer, but if still there the price is free with pick-up. Just remembering it brings a sly smile of 'brotherly one-upmanship gone awry' to my face.

Rare frame for the connoisseur ,Vintage Columbus Max Grandis Overmax Frame a very high end steel frame besting the Colnago Master X Light or even the Bianchi in Columbus EL or the Bianchi in Columbus Max, the Overmax was and is a very specific tubing made by Columbus for Grandis which was more resistant and than the Max tubing itself, I already have an Overmax but this one is truely one of its kind. Not cheap but craftsmanship is here

the lines on this bike are stellar. It looks like it was built by an artist instead of an engineer. I love it. Something like this might be nice for my wife or daughter to replace their chinohuffs...guess i found yet another rabbit hole to start exploring.

This would be stellar, ^^^. The Michelle is but a lowly step-sister and with my handlebar mods for daughter, it needs a drop bar refurb in the future, maybe some lighter components. Heavy bikes (within reason) can ride nice, too - especially with lighter wheels and tires. Just not good for climbing hills.

my current bike weighs in at about 35 pounds so I am no stranger to a heavy hill climb.

I built this thing up somewhat using your thought process on a versatile Road/Gravel bike . I had to do some cold setting and dimpling in the rear triangle to give the 32mm tires plenty of clearance room . Its not too hard to do . The bike rides like a champ and the shifting/gearing is modern but its still a 80's steel Italian bike . I switched out the Kenda Tires for some Panaracer Gravel Kings which have less aggressive tread ,,and give a little more clearance . I also put flat pedals on as Ive been riding it with my hiking shoes .
Old Steel Road bikes are very cheap right now , just an option .

The chain in the photo looks to have black inner links. I found an x10 11 and 12 with that setup but the X8 seems to only come in all gold(brass?whatever that color is) from what I can seem to google ill keep looking. I didnt know chains had cool color options and im finding a lot of fun stuff.

Like the one Manny assembled in post #64, it seems a good idea to use brifters. Especially if you to hit the gravel.
His tires barely fit. Your Puch looks like it possesses more clearance, Clarence. With room for fenders, if necessary.
Personally, I do not venture offroad unless I can help it. Does anybody use downtube shifters in the dirt?
