I know what you can get for around $189 in early 1977, that's what I paid for my Centurian Super LeMans, right about the time this magazine came out. A lot of bike and quality for the money with hand painted accent strips on the lugs. I still have it and need to restore it or at least reassemble it. A Campagnolo Record crankset was about the same price - $175.

I would like to read the article about an improved headset design and the article about elliptical sprockets. Thank you for sharing these; always something interesting to see.

Sure, they're both short. "Technical - Improved Headset Design" and "Feedback - On Elliptical Sprockets" (from Roger Durham) are inserted below.

I was curious about the ad for the book, "Between My Legs" by Chaim Sig. I found it used on Amazon, but the price was too high to simply satisfy my curiosity. Has anyone ever had this book in their greasy hands?

I was hoping for some feedback about that book too, and also found the Amazon listing.
Could be a weird trippy read. I'll report back if I buy a copy.

I’m rebuilding an old Schwinn Collegiate, the bars have a thick black padding on them, which I thought was some P.O. hack. Thanks to this thread, I now know that it was the Grab On Maxi kit, probably installed by the Schwinn dealer.

I was in high school then and utterly obsessed with bikes. We had Bicycling! in the school library and I'd read every single word. I like the vintage advice about picking up a discarded pop can tab off the road to adjust your shifters.
