Wanted - 40 hole Tubular Rim, preferably 1960s

FOUND I'm hoping to replace the steel rims and clincher tires on my 1957 Carlton with tubulars. The BH Airlite rear hub has 40 holes. The front hub has 36.

The 40 hole rim is going to be the more difficult one to find. Then I'll find a 36 to match. Mavic "Montlhery", Milremo "Course" or "Giro", Scheeren "Record", Ambrosio "Olympic Champion", Weinmann "AG", Super Champion "Arc en Ciel", early Fiamme Red Label.

Any suggestions for other period correct rims will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Brent

Maybe you can ask the guy in this thread https://www.bikeforums.net/classic-v...any-holes.html if he'll sell or trade them to you.

Thank you all.
I'm hoping to find rims much older than these for this sixty-five year old bike.

To be fair, remove the stickers and no one would know the age.

heck, both NISI and Fiamme stickers are readily available, and you would still have the lowest spinning weight rim known to man

I guess that depends on who you put in the category of "no one." For me, part of the fun of these restoration projects is finding the appropriate parts... an easter egg hunt for adults.

I have failed to find the correct part at a palatable price before. I'm sure I will fail again. If I fail in this particular search I may come back to you with my tail between my legs.

No need to apologize for enjoying the hunt! My inlaws still cannot fathom why I don’t start every Wordle with “adieu”.

I have three 40h tubular rims I can sell:

Weinmann (NOS, possibly 60s)
Mavic Record du Monde de L'Heure (NOS, probably 70s)
Mavic Monthlery Pro (barely used, probably 70s).

$30 each plus shipping. Photos and other details available on request.

Thanks to the generosity of forum members I now have two 40-hole rims headed my way, a Scheeren and a Weinmann, one attached to a 40-hole Campag hub which I am loathe to break up. On the Carlton I'll use its Airlite hub and whichever rim I can find a 36-hole mate for. The 40-hole hub and the other rim will go on another 1950's project I have in mind.

I'll continue my existing Carlton build thread once some progress is made.

Thanks to all who responded.

There are a couple of companies that are making new wooden rims. They would look sweet on certain vintage bicycles.

https://www.cerchioghisallo.com/en/

https://www.cbita.it/home

Hopefully they could drill to specs.

I'm not sure I'd choose vintage wood though.
