Perhaps a more frightening question is how much does your bike really cost? Especially for those of us who have "upgraded" our rides.

I may never really know. All I have is a platform/postal type scale and I have not found a way to stabilize/weigh a bike on it.

When people tell me about their "15.8 lb." or whatever bike ... I know it would weigh one or two pounds more if I rode it because I bring tools, tubes, a phone or computer (phone lately) plus at least one head- and tail light. Still waiting on someone to volunteer to shadow me in a support vehicle at my call and at no charge.
But everyother bike I've ever owned would be 23.5 to 26lbs under the same conditions. My first folder weighed 31.5 pounds lol. Just the pedals weighed more than a pound each. It felt like riding a tank compared to the Dahon.

You were called out in the folding bike section of the forums for declaring that your bike is the "king of folders", it's not, that it's the fastest, it's not, that it's the best quality (it's an older model Tern Verge on the recall list of bikes that were proven to be defective), it's not, then victim blaming the people who had the frame failures & basically stating they abused their bikes and are at fault, when it was proven that Tern locked out their own forums and tried to hide the problems from everyone (there's a few threads showing the bikes and injuries in the folding bike section). Then, you were constantly putting other members down, insulting them, when their opinion was different than yours. Telling them they just "couldn't afford" the "excellence" that the Tern Verge X11 is. There's more, but that's for others to look up if they're bored.

As a recreational rider not especially concerned with speed, I thought I'd weigh my bicycles just for the hell of it. My 2022 Trek Checkpoint SL5 weighed 26.2 lbs. with two bottle cages, rear rack, top tube bag, pedals, frame pump, tube, tire levers, tubeless repair kit, mini-tool, bell, cycle computer and rear light.. My 2019 Trek Domane sl5 disc weighed 24.2 lbs with two bottle cages, top tube bag, under the saddle bag, rear light, cycle computer, bell, mini-pump, tire levers, extra tube, patch kit and mini-tool. What do other riders' bikes weigh? The weights surprised me a bit, because they seemed high, but when I consider all the things I ride with the bikes didn't seem especially heavy.

When I was younger, I dreamed of a sub 20# bike. I never got there, but was close. Now I fear it's too late and I wouldn't be able to eek out the performance that a ultralight bike can deliver. Nowadays, my bikes are likely 25-35 lbs out the door.

19.4lbs out of the box. Without pedals. I'm gonna make it 19lbs with pedals. It's fast like greased lightning. And hilly Purley just got easier.
