Interesting article. I remember a model of Trek bikes from a few years ago that had some non-cromoly tubes, and internet 'commenters' were up in arms about Trek producing a 'BSO', while most of us had enough experience with either good bikes made from 'hi-ten or other less prestigious tubes, or with Treks of various levels of quality, that we knew the odds were better than not that the bike in question was very good despite the lack of a tubing sticker.

What I struggled to convey back then is the last sentence of this article: "it's not what you have that counts - it's how you use what you have." The same reason some aluminum bikes are better than some carbon bikes, and the same reason I enjoy playing the vintage 'plywood' guitar I got off Kijiji more than the solid wood one I bought new.

Oria was mostly a Mannesmann chrome vanadium tubing. In the 80's appeared the Excell OS Podium tubing one of the very best tubing used on Giordanas madeby Billato and some other rare bikes. In 1974 ,the 753 and it was also a managanese molybdene steel like the 531 .
