Actually, I was an associate degree RN for 25 years prior to completing the BSN and continuing to practice as an RN. But, I had been an LPN for ten years before Moving on Up. As I recall the examination for practical nursing boards, a recurring (correct) answer for more than a few of the questions was 'Go tell the Registered Nurse'. I didn't find that to be how things actually worked in hospitals.

Had our first (and last) child when I was 45. Now she's 11 and plays golf on Junior Tour. I'm her caddie. Never saw that coming 20 years ago. Took a solo backpack, pack-in hunting trip in the Idaho Sawtooths in 2012.

Never biked since early teens & started mtn biking in 2014 at age 53. Bought a carbon road bike at 54 & loved it. Sold the mtn bike last Fall and bought a touring bike & I'm currently outfitting it & hoping for a solo one week loop tour down the NC Outer Banks this spring.

Post 50 - Started cycling, ended up with 12 bikes.
Post 60 - Started running, ended up with 8 pairs of running shoes.
Post 65 - Put surfing decals on my truck, dozens of them. But no surfboards.

I am becoming more mature.

Well, I’m certainly not a Luddite. Plunked down some pretty cash for an Ultegra Di2 upgrade about 2 weeks ago. I guess that counts as a new thing.

After 55:
- While I've ridden a bike pretty much since I was a child, got more serious about riding as my primary physical exercise and stress reliever when I was 56. Did my first century ride at 58 and ride around 4,000 - 4,500 miles per year.
- Got a touring bike and rode a couple of looks in the Adirondacks and Northern Vt (well, I cheated - my wife ended up coming along and driving SAG for me)
- Went on a couple of backpacker style trips ... once to Singapor and Indonesia and another to Thailand.
- Got a new job

After 60
- Got into gravel riding (at 64 years old)
- Finally got a smart phone ... don't really like to carry much technology with me but figured it might be helpful to have the map apps ... that, and skype for free video calls when traveling.
- Lost more memory cells

I may have just barely touched on Probability way, way, way back when, but I know I never had the opportunity to learn Calculus.

Now all of a sudden, I'm starting to learn and use them.

I got a relative notice from 23andMe by a "probably 5th cousin" in Belfast... in his profile photo he was wearing a bike helmet so I said we had that in common even though we couldn't identify any common relatives, we're now following each other on Strava.

His name's Séamas and his last name is spelled in such a way as to give no clue how to pronounce it. He posts cool photos of his rides too -

I've really gotten into soccer the last few years thanks to my kids. I played for my 8th grade team but we didn't know anything about anything other than to just kick the ball as hard as we could toward the other team's end. But we didn't have a club team in my little town and my HS didn't have a team so that was it. Now I wish I had gotten into it. I was undersized as a football and baseball player, but would have been right in there as a soccer player. Always had good speed and fitness so I bet I would have made a decent winger.

68 is too close to 70 to be comfortable.

The best thing I got from High School was voted "the biggest non-conformist" for senior year.
Some things don't seem to change much, it's just that back then I was considered "ahead of the times" and
now i have been considered "an old foggy stick in the mud" , but I'm still mostly the same.

Last year, at 67, I finally got a flip phone. That's only because my wife got a new phone to text her daughter.
It's new to me though.

Also last year, around November, we finally were able to have High Speed Internet in our area, since we live
in a smaller town, near the western edge of civilization. Until then, we still had dial up.
Odd, she was the one who wanted it, now I'm the one using it.

So other than each day being another new day, most everything else is review.
Same song, different verse.

I got stuck in the "B" s , somewhere along the way.

Bicycles, Boats, Banjos, Books, Bibles, Bullets, and Burnt Beef.

That's ok here, there has always been a new chapter of the same old story.

At 50: Started riding to work every day, 50 miles a week.
At 51: Became a father
At 55: New aviation security procedures caused it to take 20 minutes to get a clearance by phone. Got a flip phone so I could drive to the airport while on hold.
At 60: Office moved, so increased my commute to 125 miles a week. Also switched to electronic aeronautical charts.
At 69: Got a smartphone so it could serve as an electronic chart backup, replacing paper.
At 70: Switched companies to advance my career.
