4. For the stem if I am correct in what you are saying...you loosened it until the stem moved in the steerer tube a little then the bolt would no longer turn to the left?

if you somehow tightened it or the plug got stuck, you can put an Allen wrench in the bolt and rap it with a rubber mallet. That’s how I unstick most stems.

5. Bar ends...listen to the experts above. They know their stuff.

Lastly, for what it’s worth...it took me a month to get a plastic cup cartridge BB from a steel Specialized Hard Rock.

definitely upload photos of the problem areas!

3) As I was trying to get the quill stem (It is a Shimano Dura-ace quill stem with the hidden hex bolt far down) out, I loosened the hex bolt and it suddenly became stuck. I managed to get the stem out with a lot of effort but the hex bolt is still stuck, can't loosen or tighten. Tried unscrewing the expander but that too would not budge. Any ideas?
...if the stem is out, as you state, I would dribble the ATF/acetone mix pentrant on the interface between the expander and the stem bolt. Let it sit for a while, grab the expander if there's enough of it exposed, using a plier or a curved vise grip, then insert a decently sized allen wrench into the stem bolt head and twist it loose.

4) Bar end shifters basically rusted in place on the drop bars. Right shifter's hex bolt is rounded out, the left won't budge even after 2 days of being soaked in WD-40. Can I just drill the bolts out on these? I don't really need to use them as the bike also came with down tube shifters.
...in a similar, hopelessly corroded situation, I have once simply shortened the bar ends, using a tubing cutter, and thrown away the bar end and shifter that drops off. In another case, I just tossed the whole assembly, and used a different bar. I have a lot of surplus bars I've saved over the years, but you might not be as fortunate.

I will try this. It's weird how I was able to turn it before but it reached a certain point where I just could not turn it to loosen or to tighten. Is it possible I cross-threaded it while turning? Eitherway, I've sent the frame to a bike shop owned by a friend and they agreed to sit on it and deal with it. Hoping for the best.

I would post pictures of the stem but I need a couple more posts to be able to upload pictures. Will get back to this.

I might just actually cut the ends off. I was hoping drilling thru the hex bolt might work so I dont have to deal with any filing but I'm guessing that would be way too troublesome than just cutting the through the tubes.

The stem is out of the steerer tube but the hex bolt refuses to budge. My guess is probably something lodged inside the threads of the stem and the expander? Is that even possible? I even tried taking out the tiny screw keeping the expander in place but it still refuses to turn. Will post photos when I can.
