Shimano SG exage 500 lx questions

I have a Shimano SG exage 500 lx crank set. The outer ring has 46 teeth. Does the fact that the crankset can be taken apart imply that I could add a outer ring with more teeth/bigger? I would like more "go" out of my gears.

Within reason, say maybe 4 T?
You'll have to raise the FDER, which is usually a pain to get adjusted again.
I usually end up with the shift cable gnarly enough that it needs to be replaced.

What's the chain wrap capacity of the RDER vs ring/cassette tooth counts?

Yes, but. The crankset's bolt pattern is a 5 arm x 130 bolt circle IIRC. This is a very common pattern still and many ring options are available. But if an indexed front der system is in use then there's also the ring to ring spacing that the indexing aspect is rather dependent on. Some of the Exage rings were steel (not AL alloy) and thus are thinner then current alloy ones. Sometimes thin spacers were between the steel rings and the crank's mounting tabs. S9o whiloe the ring is easily changed how the shifting ends up is the question. Is your shift control indexed? If not then all the spacing issues are likely moot.

BTW going to a larger ring teeth count is an age old attempt to overcome the inability to spin faster. Sorry but that's only 100+ years of feedback and history at play. Andy (who has 46t on all his bikes including the tandem)
