I rebuilt one of these for my nephew who used it as his college bike. Tough bike. Somehow it survived 4 years of college. . . .

I adore my 1988 'hopper (love that abbreviation) comp. My grandma and grandpa had matching comps and I was fortunate to get my grandpa's It has had many different iterations while under my possession the last ten years, but here is the latest. The green tape will be covered with leather tape soon, just not sure what color to go with yet.
This does it all, commuting, baseballing, S24O (soon), and perhaps most importantly, it exercises the dog.

I still have the frame for a '89 Rockhopper Comp I bought brand new. Am seriously thinking about having the frame restored/repainted, but haven't looked into if I can locate the graphics or decals as this is the blue/light ivory colored one with the funky '80s splash graphics on it.
I beat the living hell out of that thing and it shrugged it off, so yeah, they really were built like tanks.
