i found an online shop once which sold cycling shoes and had a handy tool to help you to compare the fit to another brand/type of shoe that you already owned.
Does anybody know which site this is because i'm in the market for new shoes and it'd be a great help.

thanks, but the tool i'm looking does not only compare sizes but also the width in different areas of the foot.

hmm maybe someone could just tell me. Is the bontrager rxxxl ltd suited for 'wide' feet? And how's the sizing compared to specialized (i have a 42 in specialized)

Both those brands are readily available for try on in stores that carry Trek and Specialized respectively. Perhaps not where you are located. Let me just say that shoes are the one cycling item I will never again buy online. I have learned my lesson. The satisfaction level is just too much better when the shoes are bought in person at a brick and mortar store. I don't say this about many things, but in this case it is worth the extra money.

you're probable right but i'm also saving for a new bike and as a student it's hard to earn some money

I prefer to buy shoes online. I find I can't really know how well I'm going to like the fit of a pair of shoes until I've mounted some cleats and ridden a few hard miles. It's a lot easier to return shoes to an online dealer with an NQA policy and the volume to absorb the cost than it is to take a used pair of shoes back to my LBS.

I hear ya. If you can find the same brand as you have been wearing, problems should disappear.

Yup. That's a valid approach too. I suppose some LBSs could be big and modern enough to operate the same way, but not nearly as commonly.

I love my Time shoes, which (just my luck) are no longer made. I have a crazy high arch and monkey feet, so I need a big shoe. So my criteria -- huge, able to fit my arch, light, carbon, crazy stiff, and boa or ratchet. Hmmm.

Looks like the next pair may be Mavics...

I also just noticed they still have the LE Giro Empires...I have a size 46 right now, wonder if I could fit into the 45.5 they still have left. I wouldn't mind having a spare set.

Lol, if I could cram my foot into a 45, they would already be ordered. I can't do it though, just too tight on my foot. I've looked everywhere for these, no one in the states has them in 46 any more.

I bought 'em.

Went to Performance this morning to drop my bike off again and tried on a size 45, they fit...little snug, but they should stretch a bit. Will probably save these for special occasions and let my blue Giros take the abuse.

They do say they mold to your feet over time. It's not like they're so snug that they hurt...I have about an 1/8" of extra space instead of 1/4" - I should be alright.

Also, the description says they will mold to my feet over time...we shall see!

I have bought two pairs of shoes based on their fit tool, and I can tell you first that it is not very accurate.

they should because the previous version did too, even the upper part so they should be fine.

IMHO, it is not very useful. So no, it is not better than nothing.

Tried to use them for running shoes. They're impossible to read and just plain wrong. Better off doing a Google search to see how a certain shoe fits, i.e. true to size, runs wide or narrow, etc. Or better yet, find an etailer with free shipping both ways.
