Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Bib Tights w/o Pad

Is anyone wearing bib tights over bib shorts? I need a new pair of tights, and all of my tights thus far has been without a chamois and bib-less. I like the versatility that this provides. While searching, I came across of a few pairs of bib tights without pads...which lead to my question. I would imagine that two sets of bib straps might be somewhat annoying, but I was looking for some feedback for those that are currently using this setup.

All my bibs tights are without pads...and no, it is not the least bit uncomfortable.

The bib straps, at least on mine, are really light and thin.

YMMV.

I use regular non padded tights over my bib shorts. They are awesome. Specialized makes pretty good stuff at a decent price.

Two straps of bib tights is almost unnoticeable.

And that set up is great because you get two layers where your bibs are, and you get the shoulder straps to hold up the tights so they don't sag.

I like the flexibility of bib tights without a pad. I have pairs in various weights for different weather conditions. I use them with Assos half shorts (which is Assos terminology for non-bib shorts).

I like my bib tights to have a chamois.
You can get tights made for runners that don't have the chamois.

If/when I'm riding I prefer to have a chamois present.
My tights are cycling specific, & are warm enough for our winters. Both are thermal lined, but one is heavier.
When its wet, I put rain pants over, if its really cold, I can put another pair of pants over. It just seems easier for me.
I don't even need rain pants on days with light rain with my Sugoi TI's.

Check out :
Sugoi RS Zero bib tight
Sugoi TI bib tight

Yes they are on the expensive side, but they get the job done for me.
Whatever keeps me riding!

I found this thread to be helpful for the chamois/non chamois debate. . It really all comes down to personal preference.
I have enough bibs to rotate in warm weather, & enough bib tights to rotate in cold weather.

Seeing as how I have no clue about tights living in so cal, i'm asking this out of curiosity.

So non-chamois tights are meant to go over your bibs? If that's the case, then what makes them different from the tights that runners wear, as ghost ryder mentioned?

Leg warmers do most of the job but, they don't help around the pelvic section. And with shorts being made with thinner and stretchier fabrics, it can get cold there especially below about 45 degrees. Tights effectively cover this area. There used to be thermal shorts on the market but these have been disappearing.

I can't stand when leg warmers staff sagging! Such a PITA!
I've also had allergic reactions to some of the higher end warmers. I guess its the materials they use in the bands that are supposed to stick to your skin. Wherever my skin is in contact with that band it gets red, swollen, & very itchy.
I never had a reaction to latex before, so I can't really say what it is.

I've used Giordana Silverline Bb Roubaix tights without a chamois for several years and love them. I don not even notice the second set of straps and as mentioned above they provide flexibility in terms of selecting the bib short you desire underneath.

yes, non-chamois tights go over your regular cycling shorts/bib shorts. I don't think runners would have bib tights, just ordinary tights.

I have a couple of reasonably prices non-chamois DHB brand tights from Wiggle. A "warm" pair, good for down to about -4deg C and a "warmer" pair for colder temps (my rule stay in bed if more than -6 deg C!)

It's the difference in having bib straps or not. As a competitive runner, most of the tights I own are for running. I have yet to find one with wind block fabric which is found in most cycling tights.

That being said, if you're fine with tights that could sag (to some that's a deal killer), running tights aren't a bad option.

They say "Pearl Izumi" on them and cost twice as much.
