Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Why Craig's List kicks ass! New bike thread...

Well, I now have a rain bike. Or, possibly a new primary? Bought this wonderful De Rosa Planet today off of craigslist. Guess how much?? Only $800!! Full dura-ace, in pretty decent shape. I'm gonna use this puppy for racing. It's pretty light for a 60cm bike. It fits me perfect too. Can't wait to log some miles this weekend!

It would appear to be a 130. I'm going to change it to a 120mm Newton, with a 44cm Newton bar. The one on it is a bit narrow for me.

For that price I give you five to six miles before the frame catastrophically fails due to previous misuse as a downhill MTB.

Why not red saddle red bar tape?

That saddle looks like a flite, no?

the saddle is a bit worn for me. I do like the Flites though, had one on my old TCR. I just bought a WCS 120mm stem and 44cm WCS bar for $35 (together) off ebay, guess it's my lucky day for deals. I'm gonna go with the red Cinelli bar tape I think. I think she's still got some miles left in her.

I've had mixed results on CL.
You sir look like you scored. It's a beauty. You have every right to be proud of that one.

Nice find. I do see some great finds like these from time to time, but I can't shell out to buy all the nice buys I see (as much as I wish I could!)

I got one of these off CL for $450:

had a wrong width FD for the frame, too narrow of a BB, needed new tires, too short of a chain, and had a cracked gear indicator. Total part cost - about $175. Looks new now. Every other piece of hardware on the bike is in like new condition.

CL can be a great place to find some deals. The problem is you have no idea what the previous owner did to the bike. If you are willing to do a bit of detective work figuring out problems (and the price is good enough to justify it), there is nothing wrong with it IMO.

Big fan of CL here, just bought two brand new, still packing material on them, Windsor Hour and Redline Monocog, both together for 250. Not the most expensive bikes, but I was looking to find a better beater fixie, and since the Hour is 300 new, I got it for 250 plus a whole nother bike, gotta say I made out pretty well.
