Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I am thinking of picking some up, but they look like they may not take to shoving a huge bottle in there. Anyone know, or what's the biggest you've used?

AFAIK, bottles only come in one diameter. Unless it's one of those aero bottles.

Are you referring to the Podium bottle?

I ask because I sometimes use insulated bottles, which can be on the tubby side of the diameter scale.

They fit. Almost perfectly. I think I have tendinitis from pulling them out when riding. I think the cages are starting to loosen a bit. Or I am getting stronger.

What color are yours? clear or gray. I'm starting to think that its the gray ones that fit. The clear ones are snug but the painted ones are just to thick.

They have bottles that are a bit smaller for smaller hands, but tacx are regular size. I was going to order the new camelbak's off amazon and the tacx tao also. The larger bottles are generally just longer, not wider. I never thought that they wouldn't fit =X

I wouldn't try to use the CamelBaks with any cage that is fully closed, like the Tacx. Also no bottles don't get any wider with a larger size, just longer. And many small compact frame won't work with large water bottles. I have various kinds of 20 & 24oz specialized bottles and the 24oz ones are a tight squeeze into my 53cm lemond.

BZZZT! I'm sorry, thank you for playing, next contestant please...

The Tacx Tao forms a rigid, closed loop that completely wraps around the circumference of a bottle. There is a maximum limit to the bottle diameter beyond which the Tao simply will not accomodate. Whereas nearly every other bottle cage on the market has some "expansion capability" due to their non-closed loop construction, as well as the springiness (sic) of the metal or carbon arm(s) that grip the bottle.

Now, having said that...I've not yet found a cycling-specific water bottle that didn't fit into a Tacx Tao. But I do know that a Problem Solvers Cage Rocket, or a standard tennis ball can, will not fit in a Tacx Tao, though they fit fine in every other cage I've tried for the reasons described above.

Camelbak podium bottles (clear w/ black stripe), 20oz polar insulated, and 24oz polar insulated all fit fine in mine.
