1979/1980 Ritchey Tandem: Cleaned Up & Road Ready. (LOTS of Pics!)
Still waiting & hoping the maker gets a look at some of the pics of the bike and confirms its age (thanks leica lad!). Anyway, I cleaned, waxed, adjusted stuff and installed new bar tape & hoods. Please enjoy some fillet brazed goodness on a warm June, Sunday evening.

Utterly Awesome!
Can only presume it rides as nicely as she looks. Congrats (again)!

I will fix the rear saddle angle when the crank shorteners arrive. My son is about an inch to short as it currently sits. I will also install a green Carradice saddle bag I have on another tandem currently.

The ride is truly fantastic. I don't have a lot of tandem experience but I took my wife out on it today and this bike was a lot stiffer than my other tandem. Very Nice!

that is SWEET!!!!! My wife won't ride with me on a tandem, after 20 years of marriage she knows how much gas I have. Just so you know it smells like fresh baked chocolate chip cookies. Really nice bike - I love the biplane fork and the down tubes!

I agree, it is a real beauty. I certainly hope you receive some feedback from Tom Ritchey.
How do the cable stops work on the down tube at the shifter bosses? Are there holes in the mounting studs?
Rob, put your wife in the captain's position. Or always ride with the wind.

Absolutely stunning, I'd love to get my hands on a gem like that!
My wife and I went out to run some errands on our Santana this weekend, and while she was in a store, I decided to ride around in a parking lot. I don't ride it solo very often, and I nearly crashed within the first 10 yards. My tandem is a bit sketchy without the ballast

I have yet to find a tandem that doesn't "waggle" when you ride it without a stoker. It is especially bad if you decide to put a trunk bag at the rear. While I've not crashed, I have done some short, yet difficult climbs on a tandem without my ballast on more than one occasion.

That bike is just so perfect looking. It's like it was sculpted out of a solid chunk of steel. Beautiful!

Wow, fender, that is really beautiful. You must be so excited! Whoever said it looks as though it grew from seed really nailed it. I love the yellow tape.

Stunning! I have always been a huge fan of Tom's bikes. That tandem is from the era when Tom did all his own frame building work, and it shows. Most Ritchey tandems I have seen are later MTBs, not road tandems. That is a very unique (and potentially highly collectable) tandem. Same color Imron as my Chris King Cielo road bike from that era (California lugged goodness that I bought in '09 when a deal on a fillet braved Ritchey road bike I thought I was buying fell through). A very beautiful and well preserved of some of California's finest fillet brazed goodness. Enjoy it! Thank you for sharing the photos! Very sweet!
