Spec AWOL sizing - limited and odd options
I'm just venting I suppose but welcome any insight.
The average male in U.S., U.K. and Germany is 5'10" (178CM). According to Specialized's own sizing chart, the AWOL Medium is for 5'6"-5'10" and the large is from 5'10"-6'2". So the medium would tend to be too small and the large tend to be too large. Educate me please...it seems counterintuitive. Why don't you place the 5'10" average rider smack in the middle of the range rather than on the edge? Sure, more choices this way but probably two bad choices.

A better solution, but perhaps a costly one for Specialized, is to offer more sizes. AWOL comes in only four sizes. A similar bike, indeed likely Specialized's marketing target, is the Salsa Vaya which comes in EIGHT sizes. Oh, and by the way, AWOL's are hard to find and I'm not going to order a bike without a test ride.
any thoughts?

I'm smaller than average at 5'7" and as a male, I find a medium frame fits me well. I have a proportionally sized body with long arms and legs so I need something that is comfortable. The right size bike fits me well by extending the stem height to get it up to the saddle.
