simplex retrofriction shifter cables

so im getting ready to cable up a raleigh competition today and looking to use a nice simplex shifter set, and none of my inner cable barrels fit the shifters... the end barrels are a bit too wide. so i guess they need their own proprietary inner cables? or is this just a case of cheap inner cables from ebay with poor quality control?

.
...they are not exactly proprietary cables, but they are smaller than what's considered "normal" shifter cable ends. Your choices are to modify the heads of your cables, using files, sandpaper, or a grinder, to make them smaller, or do what I do with them, which is to modify the holes in the shifter body, by drilling them out larger. Do this carefully, and preferably off the bike.

Campagnolo cables and those sized for Campagnolo shifters will fit just fine.

For years, the cable kits sold at WM had Campagnolo-sized ends on them, for a more universal fit to all bikes.

Trivia note, perhaps useful: Campagnolo's cables are wound backwards, no kidding!

Fibrax make them with the smaller head that fits Simplex , Campagnolo .
Shimano etc are fatter .
If I was on your side of the world I would send you a couple from my box of 100 :-)
Might be quicker to get the file out .
