Show us your black bikes!
Hello all. I just picked up a black Pinarello bike. The previous owner had this thing all blacked out. Black stem, bar tape, fenders, housing, etc. I'm considering my options to give it a little more pop. I am looking for ways to bring in some highlight colors. It's got a great Campy fluted seatpost. I was considering painting the flutes red and having red bar tape, maybe red somewhere else (pedals, tires, etc.).
I'd like to see your black bikes to get some ideas for color options.
Thanks!

I think black is incredibly understated and elegant. I powdercoated my old Peugeot P8 and added a decal and head badge in metallic silver; it gets a lot of looks that it didn't when it was a faded maroon beater with ugly graphics from the mid 80's.

I've got a few, but this one might be the sharpest looking: a 70s French bike of unknown origins:

Just wondered if I'm the only one who cheaped out and how it worked out for others.

Mostly Mischief
This is a custom built frame by British ex-pat Colin Laing, working from his shop in the Southwest in the seventies or early eighties. It is my wife's bike and came to us from the original owner who had commissioned Laing for a custom build.
The tubing is 531, the decals are all hand painted and there's some of those typical exquisite details seen on frames from small one-man shops, places where nobody are in a rush. Nice touches include mitered stays with integrated pump holder, the long point lugs lined with gold and the occasional graphic in the cut-outs, and braze-on for FD.
The components are mostly classic Campagnolo, with a Bar-Con friction shifting drive train centered around a Rally RD and a newer compact crank. Wheels are 27".
It is a lightweight, smooth handling bike with an effective yet forgiving feel.

I know someone who clear-coated over Cyclomondo decals, and the clear coating exaggerated the thickness of the decals. It still came out great, but you could feel the thick decals under the clear. They're definitely thicker than originals...
