How do you ID Bob Jackson?
Hi Guys,
So there is this Bob Jackson frame and fork that popped up locally for slightly over 100USD. The Bob Jacksons I can find online are lugged unlike this one which makes me wonder what are the identifying marks for their more modern builds? Also when did these style rear dropouts start becoming popular? I read that he passed in 1998 and the quality was up and down for a while. Would anyone know which years were good years and which were bad? Would like to try to find out if its one from the good years since I am considering getting it for my sister.

odd that it exhibits fork end eyelets and no dropout eyelets
they may be from differing ends sets

Yea... I was thinking maybe it might be a late 90s or early 2000s make since it isnt lugged, has OS tubing among other weird stuff. Now I am kinda asking the question could this be custom (to put it nicely)? Did they ever do any custom orders?

No one to definitively ask.
I was going to quip if a middle 1970’s machine - was the bottom bracket distorted side to side.
Bob admitted that some of the Lads cranked them in the vise too tight.

...the fork looks promising, and they do use vertical dropouts now (from the visit Leeds website)
Honestly speaking, I don't think I could get any of my female acquaintances to ride a bicycle with a prominently displayed "BJ" on the head tube.
And I ride a couple of "Faggin' frames, so we are pretty open minded, all in all.

Haha I completely didnt think of this! Her only criteria for me was that it would be a purple bike. Anyhow I will pass on this one since its hard to determine authenticity. I suppose its a shame that its likely fake but then again looking at other Bob Jackson prices vs this one has me wondering why even lol. On to the next one i guess. Thanks for the help!

This said, if you have the serial number, I can compare to that on my 2000 and possibly get some idea of whether or not yours might be authentic.

No serial yet, was considering making the seller an offer until it became apparent its a bit of a wonky package . On the upside, researching Bob Jackson has got me interested in the British side of vintage cycling. Hopefully a good one comes along at the right price .

I am a rider of a Bob Jackson but not an an expert on their history or product line(s).
I have never seen a welded Bob Jackson frame. Also, I've never seen that head badge or metallic decals.
I've also never seen a simple, single color factory-original paint job, either. Mine is a single, solid red but it is a repaint from the factory original.
3alarmer's frame looks great! It is also about the simplest Bob Jackson paint job I have ever seen.
