Di2: Anyone use Wine to run E-tube?

I need to change a couple of derailleurs and update firmwware with E-tube, and don't have a Windows machine that works currently.

I don't have the bluetooth-enabled battery (mine is SM-BTR2), so I need a USB/PC version, but have only MacOS computers.

Has anyone had any success using Wine with E-tube? I am going to try it as soon as I have a chance, but any positive experiences (or otherwise) would be helpful to hear about.

Thanks in advance.

For the mobile version of eTube, the DI2 has to have support BT. His DI2 doesn't have BT.

Missed that. The older Di2 11 and 10 systems need the 111 BT unit in any case.

Mine is the first generation of the 11-speed Ultegra that came out in 2014, and it is incompatible due to the battery.

With Apple's Silicon M1, M2 and M3 processors, the iOS app could work, but it doesn't. It should be easy for Shimano to tweak it to use USB; it is a pity they don't.

I got E-tube version 3.4.5 to install with Wine, but it throws a run-time error that I don't know enough to try to fix.

I found an old mac mini in the garage and going to try the boot-camp route.

The older mac mini's latest OS has a "bootcamp" app that requires windows 7 or 8; nothing newer. It flat out rejects windows 10 (they left Number 9 to the Beatles). By some stupid miracle I had a Windows 8.1 install DVD, an external drive, and a valid registration code. It still was a struggle to install it and then E-tube v. 3.4.5 (I need the earlier one first, so that my older hardware all gets recognized -- learned that the hard way last time around with my wife's bike).

It turns out there is an older ANT+ wireless unit that does/did work with my old battery, introduced in 2014:

I am reasonably certain it doesn't do Bluetooth, and I need the newer BT N110 battery for that (and its newer wireless dongle).

Correct, the SM-EWW01 is ANT only, so it wouldn't solve your problem.. unfortunately.

You should be fine with E-Tube Project V4, assuming your SM-BCR2 has been updated when you connected to your wife's bike.
(v4 needs the SM-BCR2 firmware to be relatively up to date, but cannot update the SM-BCR2 firmware. The BCR2 firmware is updated in the background when using v3.4.5)

TerryDi2C Many thanks. I am once again making heavy use of your excellent website resources.

Everything works on v. 3.4.5. Putting v. 4.0.4 on Win8.1 is challenging my nonexistent windows skills.

I may just have to settle with v. 3.4.5 until I can scrounge a more current windows computer, but I am currently midway through about 75 updates, so I at least want to try agin. I finally got the .Net dependency to install.

After all those updates and drama, I swapped the new derailleurs and connected to E-tube and they were already recognized and worked as if the only thing needed was to update the firmware on everything before starting. I even got a "Relax" notification on my Garmin watch, but in the end, nothing went wrong (except I can't get on of those wire grommets back into the hole in the frame). The 10 year old battery doesn't enable any features, but now I have to decide whether to replace it, or steel my wife's battery while she is out of the country (she refuses to use any of the additional features, and the 10 year old battery holds a charge for 4 to 6 months still.

Thanks again to everyone who helped/advised.

Updates solved the missing dylib issue. Thankfully, I get the same result. Sadly, there is nothing to tweak with the old battery.

The interface is nicer to look at.

The one remaining irritation is that I want to run this headless, but despite having set the resolution to 1080p, it defaults back to 480p and I can't change it unless I connect a monitor. For a few bucks I might get this HDMI dummy plug, so I can leave the mini near by bike stand and display remotely on my laptop or iPad via NoMachine (like what you are seeing in the screen-shots):
