2016 Diverge Expert

Been riding my Diverge Expert since January, 2016. Had it out on some gravel grinders but mostly ride on the rails to trails and some dirt here in Wisconsin. The bike rides great and even better when I put on some Clement 36mm tubeless tires (40 psi). I also flipped the stem to give me a more upright riding position.

Fender/mudguard for diverge elite?

Purchased 2017 Elite DSW a couple months ago, looking to fit it with fenders/mudguards, anyone have pics or tips on what works best for the Diverge? In my initial research, it looks like reviews are all over the place, and not very specific. One issue seems to be with the way the Diverge is oddly constructed to take fenders, and second for the compatibility of fenders "said" to be compatible, but ending up not. Basically been looking at the Plug n Play v2, or the newer Roadracer Mk3s. Anyone put anything else?

Potentially looking into the future to do some light road touring with the bike, so if anyone has a good commuter/light touring setup with the bike, would love to check it out!

Any guidance or what I should be prepared for in fitting guards on the bike would be appreciated.

Buy the ones that have been purposely made for the bike from specialized. They are called plug and play mudguards. You will see why when you get them.

So the new 2017 Diverge DSW Elite has Praxis BB30, Praxis Alba 2D crank 48/32, last year's was still Tiagra crank 50/34.

So theres no way to change the Praxis back to Tiagra right?

Also, is this new wheel set AXIS Elite Disc with QR in rear and TA in front the infamous SCS wheels?

I've been reading up on it and still don't really understand this SCS and why they used it and now maybe not

My CruX had a Praxis Zayante crankset on it and I had initially planned to swap it to a Shimano to match the group but it turned out to be a really good crankset, for me at least. The 48/32 to me is a great setup as well for overall riding and especially when off road. I would send a email to Specialized on the wheels, as the wheels don't specify SCS but all the wheels on the carbon models do? They went away from the concept due to the lack of available wheels outside of their own for owners to use, many models have dropped the concept altogether while others appear to have on various models. The LBS told me eventually they will be gone altogether?

My 2016 DSW Elite 58cm with full Tiagra weighed in at 23lbs even with XT pedals, 2 bottle cages, and Garmin mount.

Finally, out of all the research I did, came down to 3 bikes, 2 were on sale 2016 Synapse Alloy Tiagra and Cube Attain SL and the 2017 DSW.

Price and spec wise, the Cube was the best (105s, shimano hyd brakes) but at size 53, it was very marginally too big.
Synapse I had to drive 2hrs+ to at least see it...

Went into UK Specialized Concept shop and made mistake of sitting on DSW.

All stock standard items, didn't even reverse the stem, haven't put A530 pedals on yet (still debating on that, silver too)

Only rode an hour and so far, its remarkably comfortable.

issues:
front derail rubs when in the 48t
a fair bit of travel in front brake
front wheel disc may have been bent ever so slightly during transport

Hi
-Rubbing derailleur...solved, just needed to get my knowledge up via youtube and google on adjusting front and back derailleurs
-front brake travel is manageable for now, haven't got around to adjusting it yet
-front brake disc....yea, I bent it, well, airline bent it during shipping but its very minimal but it may wear out the pads at different rate....

at the moment, just enjoying the bike

Its funny that others have mentioned the front derailer issue... I have it on mine as well... I try to adjust the prime, but no other bike has required so much fiddling on the road. I took it to the LBS where it was purchased and was told that is the nature of the bike. Are there any fixes? The bike is nice and fits my needs, but that constant grinding sound on the front derailer is a bit annoying. - its a 2016 model (Ultegra) that apparently no one likes by the way... All stock except I put S-works cranks on it from my extra road bike.

Oh and I replaced the seat post as I was getting a numb feeling in the worst area... So I put on a Cane Creek Thudbuster (short-travel version)... Cured that on the first ride

Roger

I have a deal to get a Sport A1 2016.

it says the rims are wider, would 25mn tires fit on those rims ? I think 30's are too big for me, maybe i can buy 28's but i have spare 25's so i'd like to use them.

would a gravel bike with 25's feel as fast as a road bike with 25's on a good road ? Does the 10kg and general wideness on frame (to let 35's in) and the wide wheels kill a bit the speed ?

Don't know if I would fit 25's on the stock wheels - I have Zipp 30's on my Diverge and I believe the internal width is close to 20mm and even though I've read they'll take 25's the narrowest I run are 28's. As to your question about speed compared to a road bike- it depends. I've actually been using my Diverge as more of an endurance ride the past few months with minimal use on gravel (for now) and it's fine in that respect. Would I ever use it on a group ride? Not where and who I ride with- too hilly and I'd definitely be dropped! I only really notice the "speed" difference when I get on my race bikes soon after. Yes there's definitely a weight penalty, for me about 7 pounds between the Diverge and my other bikes, but more so the geometry makes a huge difference when comparing them. The Diverge just won't feel as snappy because of the longer chain stays and lower bottom bracket. It's extremely stable and I love the bike, but in my case I'm faster on my dedicated road bikes. A lot of that has to do with the terrain I ride, if I lived in a very flat area I don't think there would be any appreciable difference.

My FD only rubs a little if it get near the big-little or little-big ranges. All it takes is a half click in or out of the FD levers, no big deal. I was told this is the way brifters work, but this is my first bike with brifters.

It's the way Shimano brifters work...feel lucky they can be corrected; I still can't get mine flawless.

I got my A1 two weeks ago and have almost 300 miles on it. I call it a "chipseal" bike since that's what I got it for. This thing is a magic carpet ride and I'm no slower than on any of my racing bikes. Of course a week after I got it the '18's came out, but I've decided to keep this one and begin the mods because I like the geometry better. Only real negative is that the Axis Classic wheels are not 11 speed compatible. The hub is 135, but there's no spacer behind the cassette. Going to slowly build it up over the next couple of months.

Mod plans:
NOS Campy Centaur 10sp shifters/derailleurs cheap on ebay
Race Face Cadence 10sp road crankset I already have
I love the Toupe saddle so I'm buying the titanium rail Expert version
ShockStem
CG-R seatpost
? wheelset, maybe the BDOP wheel kit
Jack Brown 33.3c tires
original wheels will have CX tires for the trails
