Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I have wide feet and Lakes, in Wide, are the only shoes that I'll buy at this point. I used to wear Spec, but then they went a little narrower and screwed everything up. Now, they're going back wide again, after studying foot dynamics and concluding that most cycling shoes are too narrow. Not surprising (to me, at least), their latest shoes are being met with rave reviews. So yeah, like tires and rims, shoes are trending wider, too!

Restive in the Finisterre division is your man. Here's the entry list, unfortunately without ratings. We should be one of the faster boats in the division and handicapped accordingly, so some boats behind us could finish ahead on corrected time.
No wrong turns!

What's the plan - rhumb line or south at the start to later catch a spin run to the finish? Or something else?

I'm guessing Covid shot #4, because getting Covid 4 times is quite the accomplishment!

Yes, the shot. I've been fortunate to not experience the illness.

I know that's the trend, but I am a contrarian. I really have narrow feet. BITD Sidi actually had a NARROW size option "S" which they got ride of several years ago. They would fit me perfectly. Their regular is ok but I have to cinch the shoe as tight as it will go for it to fit me. I really need narrow shoes. I have heard that Bont (Not Bontrager!) run narrow but they are likely out of my budget range.

Bont, along with Lake, is one of the leading manufacturers of shoes that are actually wide (as opposed to high volume) - do they do a series of narrow, too?

Allegedly. I am sticking with tried/true in the shoe department, so Sidi for me.

Whoa - I did a quick search and, in some models, they have as many as 5 widths listed: Narrow, Standard, Wide, Double Wide and Asian (). That's crazy.

Installed the new stem; if I pick up the bike off the ground there's a little forward and back play if I push forward and back on the handle bars. Something loose in the headset? How did I install this incorrectly.

Did you pre-load, by tightening the top cap, before tightening the stem to the steerer?

As near as I can tell, people are EITHER wide- OR narrow-footed; everyone either says shoes are too narrow (me) or too wide (you), and no one's happy.

I mean, I know there are some people in the middle, but wide/narrow fits are rarer than it seems they should be, and it seems manufacturers have a habit of chasing in one direction or the other instead of providing options.

It's like bike frames. It's cheaper to make fewer sizes.

5/6 on Wordle. I'm enjoying it. 30 miles today. Felt like twice that. I arrived home exactly in time to watch the Amazon delivery van run over one of our ornamentals in the tree lawn while making a three point, 180° turn. He apologized in broken English, but would do it again in a heartbeat.. It was quite the beautiful turn; I'm sure he's proud of it.

My issue is not width, but rather volume. I have low-volume feet, which work great with Sidis if I crank them down. Same is true with any laced-up shoes. Then I end up having to figure what to do with the excess laces!

Apart form the above-mentioned volume issue (because my feet seem to be average in width), my biggest shoe issue is asymmetry. If a pair fits my left foot, the right foot is cramped. If it fits the right, the left is loose. What I need is a left shoe in 45 and a right in 46.

In other news, I'm going to begin riding in spandex, on my longer rides anyway. Not around town. Too bad LAJ isn't here to get the news; he was the one who took the most offense at my odd choices in cycling apparel.
A la datlas , I have a pair of shorts that's 20 years old if it's a day. Bought from Performance before they split off from Nashbar.

Just give yourself a few more years. Most folks get slightly more volume in their feet with age. Try a little calcium channel blocker if you want to accelerate the process, ideally a dihydropyridine.

My daughter showed up this morning, and saw me in my bibs. Poor girl. There is no amount of eye bleach that can help that. Just hope she’s not too scarred.
