I checked through velobase and did not see anything. It will be offered up to someone at some point but wondering what it is.

it’s in storage at the moment but I didn’t remember seeing a label. I though it might be a Nervar or Solida or something.

frame no earlier than 1974

chainset looks like it may be a SOLIDA

boottom bracket assembly appears it may be a BARDON product such as REWAX MD

Thanks Juvela! It might have been the chainguard and that extra black ring that threw me off...what is that black thing for...keep the chain from getting stuck between the rings? It’s odd.

Someone who wants to add 4 pounds to their bike is welcome to have it...

juvela when Schwinn could no longer source (or the price point was too high) the TA crankset for the Sports Tourer, they switched to a Nevar crankset. They kept that chainguard in place between the 54T and 40T chainrings.

I modified my Nevar and made it a triple by drilling mounting holes for a granny gear. But as you can see, kept the chainguard.
(Note: This photo shows where the granny was placed prior to drilling the mounting holes. See pictures below for finished modification.)

So a double chainguard. Interesting. So it doesn’t go clunk and has a transition.

This is definitely NOT a lightweight. The Gitane will likely get an alloy crank of some sort despite the pedigree.

Nice job lining up the crank arm with the chain stay. 🙂

What is the tooth count on the rings? I might be interested.

I don't see the mounting holes. How is the innermost ring held?

Opps! I posted the wrong picture. I guess I was in a hurry last evening and didn't look close enough. The mounting holes were drilled into the large ring.

Oddly, 52/36. No markings...had to finger count the darn things...
