This has come up before. It's an International made for the Canadian market. The picture's gone, but it is the same bike.

Here's a link to the Michael's Cyclery catalog I referred to above. Based on T-Mar's input, this may be off-topic info, but it was requested.

The Japan-built "International Mk II" is listed as having R531 tubeset, while there's also a "555" model, which appears to have "Racing USA" on the top tube.

The bike is long gone but this one shows it well if you zoom in:

Thanks for all the information--happy to know I have a Canadian transplant!
If anyone has a catalog scan that shows this bike I would be very grateful you'd post it.
For future reference, here are a few more detailed pics, beginning with the serial number, 6-B1316.
The tubing is, indeed, 555SL.

Threads like this show just how blind everyone was before the internet. Bikes and a million other things can now be researched to a level not even imaginable in the 'old days'.

Hi RaleighBikeGuy,
I think that your serial number is M6-B1216. The s/n format is for Merida of Taiwan.
I have my doubts about it being from Raleigh Canada, wrong s/n format.
EDIT:
M = Merida
6 = 1986 year of manufacture
B = month? February

Thanks for this. Didn't see the "M", so M6-B1316 (not a '2' I don't think). I think the consensus was that these were made in Asia (Taiwan, I now understand thanks to your post) for the Canadian market, not that it was made in Canada, right?

I concur, the bicycle was made by Merida of Taiwan in 1986. It definitely wasn't made by Raleigh Canada.

Hey guys, I have one of these bikes. I bought it back in 1986 in Moncton, New Brunswick, CANADA..... I will get some better pictures and post them for you. Unfortunately I don't have a brochure

Hello rick,
Welcome to BF! As a fan of the Raleigh England and USA models, I would love to see some of the Canadian models.
Looking forward to pics.

Looking forward to seeing photos of your bike. I think most people would recommend creating an account with a photo sharing service like 'photobucket.com' and using that to post photos.
