I've been building up a '82 Bianchi Specialissima and I saw a single speed Bianchi with a pantagrapghed seat post. Had to buy it! The only checkout I did on the bike was to make sure the seat post wasn't stuck. I needed up with some additional parts for the parts bin plus the Silicon Valley Bike Exchange received some.

Seat post has been polished and I'm now repainting the pantagraphing.

That looks like a nice seat cluster - thinned down lug points, pantographed, capped seatstays. Might be a nice frame there. Just sayin'......

I, too, have never bought a bike for a single part. In fact, I don't think I've ever bought a bike for parts, period. But that's just me. I can certainly see wanting that post for an '82 Specialissima enough to buy the bike. A nice crowning touch for a great bike. And as genejockey notes, the donor bike might just make a nice little project itself . . . .

Also, painting the pantographing is not hard. Do try to be somewhat careful to color inside the lines, but don't be fanatical about it. Any slop over comes off very easily with a single-edge razor or an X-acto knife. Let the paint dry, then run the blade over both edges of a slot or opposite sides of a letter, and you're done in less time than it took to type this. If I can do it, klutz that I am, you can do it.

So is the RD hanger still there? Never for just a SP but most of us know this one would be one of the few. I have bought plenty of bikes and frames where the SP factored in and helped swing the buy. If this frame is usable and I assume you got an ok deal, you probably did just fine.

I used to joke that you could buy near NOS Mafac brake sets for $50 at garage sales. Just had remove the attached Peugeot. (Now those UO-8s are valued and the prices are way up.)

You and I think alike. Though mine usually end up going a different direction than I expected. I bought this Peugeot mixte, with horrible paint and missing half the components, because I wanted the TA crankset. Once I got it home I realized it had some potential. The delrin brake levers were still in great shape and the Peugeot logo stem is pretty cool. I repainted the worst areas (the brown paint is new) and built it up for my daughter. I had to find a TA crankset somewhere else.

Someone else finally nabbed it after over a month on CL.

Considering how much I've seen patographed parts go for I'm sure I did fine. The frame looks like an 83 (Based on S/N, but I'll post it in the Bianchi thread to get an expert opinion), and is on the higher end side (Campy dropouts, 27.2 seat post). Once I get my current Bianchi finalized I'll start thinking about this one. It rode really well as a single speed and the frame was intact with no modifications. Here's one more picture.

The brakes are NR era so not Victory and at least one is nicer than what I currently have.

I thought briefly about going down the pantograph rabbit hole with my Bianchi - until I looked at ebay prices. Yeah - no! One fully-pantographed Colnago is enough for me

Many years ago I bought a Concorde for the Athena group that was on it

This Concorde happened to have a nice Cinelli stem that was panto'd with "Battaglin"

When I resold the Concorde, I kept the Battaglin stem

About a year later, a Battaglin in my size came up for sale locally

I didn't need another bike but, of course I bought the Battaglin just so that I could install the stem on it

I don't think I've bought just for a seatpost, but I regularly buy for parts when the price is low enough. I think the lowest I ever stooped was $8 for a bike just for it's tires...

I have been doing just that for years. MAFAC and CLB brakes, Stronglight 49D cranksets, Philippe bars and stems, high-flange Normandy hubs. BITD French bikes from the early eighties were very affordable and a great way to fill the parts bin with nice stuff.

I believe I bought a lady's Raleigh 3-speed once just for the chainguard, which I put on a men's Raleigh 3-speed in progress. Actually, now that I think about it, I believe I twice had to buy lady's Raleigh 3-speeds as there's two types of attachment systems for chain guards, and the first one was the wrong kind! In the end, I ended up selling everything off. People around here will buy 3-speeds without chainguards or with mis-matched chain guards if they're cheap enough.

Twice, but not for a seatpost: Both times they were BSO, $9.95, GoodWill, bike boom 10 speeds, dirty, rusty, flat tires etc. But 1 sported a pair of well worn Campagnolo NR pedals, the other had a French leather saddle in fair shape. Kept the pickings, cleaned up and sold or gave away the donors. Never see anything like this nowadays. Don
