1981 Raleigh Competition GS in PA

1981 Raleigh Competition GS

Reynolds 531 frame and fork, Pearl Silver paint, chrome Suntour Superbe dropouts.

23" center to center seat tube

Campagnolo Gran Sport derailleurs, downtube shifters, crankset, etc.

No seat post or seat included.

Pretty sure this is a 1981, not sure if it was between years, there are some catalog differences between but I know Raleigh was known to mix things up and use what they had on hand sometimes vs the catalog. N1C* serial number, likely built by Panasonic.

Not available to ship, pickup only in Northern Pennsylvania.

Asking $220, but if I'm off on value, let me know.

I didn’t know Raleigh made frames in Japan with 531. Interesting and cool. GLWTS!

I happen to have one of these framesets which is slated to leave, in case you want it

The blasphemous Raleigh International was my final purchase! I’m more inclined toward N-

There's another one for sale in Indiana, just listed last week- might want to keep an eye on it to see what it ends up going for so you can price yours accordingly. Seems like a nice bike, good luck with the sale

I just sold an English version of this bike , 1977 , which was the first year of the "GS" . Mine was complete with the original saddle ( date stamped ) and it was in excellent shape , very few paint blemishes and the chrome was magnificent . It sold for 400 and I shipped it to New York at the new owner's expense. It took less than a month to sell it. I probably could've gotten more but I'm just trying to move things along . Joe

Additional data point, pricing-wise... I picked up a '79 Comp GS a few months back for $200. Silver, 25", complete and original, though somewhat cosmetically challenged (the chrome on the forks is just beyond salvageability). $260 seems pretty reasonable, particularly as the MIJ versions are said to be better constructed.

Thanks for the comments and additional pricing info everybody! I've been out of buying/selling C&V bike stuff for a while, and at this point I'm just weeding out some projects I haven't gotten to in order to downsize to the "core fleet" of keepers.

Sounds like I'm in a good ballpark for price, so if it doesn't end up selling around there, I may end up hanging on to the frameset to build up later and selling the GS stuff separately.

Updated the price in the first post with a price drop, and bumping the thread to see if there's interest before I end up parting this Competition GS out (and just hanging on to the frameset for later).
