Ladd’s 500 in Portland OR

The slogan is “Let’s do something really stupid”

Portland is mostly a grid street pattern. The two anomalies are Laurelhurst, (concentric circles) and Ladd’s Addition (diagonal streets surrounding a 1/5th mile circumference traffic circle)

In 2016, a bored cyclist invited 40-ish friends to do the 500 laps around the Ladd's circle. Now….400 cyclists and an equal number inside the circle/park grilling up burgers, dogs and placing shrimps on sticks (more on that later).

I showed up in my new-to-me "Cino Killer" and hunted for my team mates.

Look at that brake

The ride officially starts at 10

but I needed some practice so I rode single for a dozen laps to get a proper feel.

found my mates. We took to a side street to practice being the captain, first mate, second mate and stoker

before the ride began, I noticed some of the stunning and interesting C&V bikes

The ride begins. Chaos ensues.

It was more the bike that had to do the 500 laps Sometimes I was solo Sometimes I let complete strangers, well, the PDOT group I befriended for a fair amount on on-hand beignets made in park.

More C&V

ok
i couldn’t take many pics while piloting the “Cino Killer”

but while riding in circles, those in the park are trying to feed you, whether gummy worms, hot dogs or one group who put shrimp on long sticks, dipped in cocktail sauce, and handed to riders passing by

oh, plus Jell-O shots and fireball.

neither which I consume.

of course, after the laps, and no vehicle is long enough to carry the beast. So solo home I go.
