Def prefer the 8spd,but then we have alot of hills around here. Also lighter(about 1/2lbs) and tool-free wheel changes, plus some folks have had issues with the EBB's. My 3 is just a screw-around-on bike,if I was going to commute on one,I'd go with the 8.
So where are the pics?

So dynaryder... what do you think of the Hooligan as a general run around, commute to work (it's only about 10 minutes for me), library, and urban stomper bike?

Huh... interesting... I'm looking at another photo, and on the top tube it has EU flags on it. Maybe this one was originally for the EU market.

That's a kickstand. That plus the sticker make me think it's used. Would def pull it out of the box and look it over.

Well, I met with the seller and got a decent test ride out of it - about 25 minutes worth. The bikes were purchased overseas - he had three of them! - but this one was not used much. So, it was definitely not new (the chainstays and gears were dirty, but not excessively so) and it was in the box for transit, but it was in good condition overall. I probably could have negotiated the price.
I ended not making an offer on it. I knew the bike was compact going in, but it felt just a bit too small. I know the riding position is more aggressive than what I'm normally used to, but I kept feeling as if I had to move the seat further back or the handle/riser further up and out forward. It seemed I was too far forward and there was a lot more stress on my arms than I expected. In fact, it felt a lot like a current, old hybrid I have which is just a bit too small. He adjust the seat several times for me, and I ended up changing the handle position to simulate if it was at least a bit higher. However, I just couldn't get as comfortable as I wanted - not terrible really, but I suspect I would have to spend a fair amount for new parts to lengthen the cockpit a bit and I'm not really prepared to spend that much money given I have other alternatives.
Too bad - I really wanted to like the bike. The bike is unique, in great condition, and the seller was very nice and accommodating in helping me adjust the bike as much as possible. I guess it's just not meant for me.
Thanks to you dynaryder and thugpipe (he gave me some advice). For now, I guess I'll pass. In fact, I'm no longer sure I'll pursue the alternative bike I was considering - the Dahon Silvertip. I would like to think that it would be more comfortable given that it is modeled after a more conventional road bike, but there's no way I can test ride it since it would a mail order. For the Silvertip, if I get it, it's a one way street: there's no return from the dealer on it.

Just got this older model in December. My initial mods were ergo grips, 2.0 Big Apples, Brooks B67 saddle, carbon riser bar, and Dahon bag (I modded the bracket to work upside down and have a carbon plate to keep it from breaking the OEM logo badge. Future mods will be a higher handlebar, spiked pedals, and a custom 3D printed headbadge. Maybe a carbon seatpost, hydro brakeset, and shorter stem if I can find good deals. I posted this on the FB fanpage but prefer this forum since it's easier to search for info.

Haha, no relation to the admiral according to my father. He was an adopted child so I have to believe him since he doesn't know who his genetic parents were. So anyone else have any modded Hooligans to share pics of?

Check out Instagram for modded Hoolis.
You can search the Facebook group via Photos - if that makes it easier.
I'm down to five Hooligans now. The Hooligan is a mini-velo I really enjoy riding.

Nearly 10 years later, and I just acquired a Hooligan 8 in white.... love it, and its nearly all original, for now.
I have seen one in person, and I think it will be an interesting bike 10 yrs from now due to it's differences from conventional bikes - the 20" wheels, muscular frame and the mono-fork.
Not sure how suitable it is for someone my size - 6'3" with a 39" seat-to-pedal measurement. There aren't too many folders or mini-velos that are designed for trail use.

Too late for new Hooligans?
Been interested in one for over a decade, but couldn't quite justify it until now. I don't see any new available, has it been temporarily or permanently discontinued?
Cheers!

It appears (from my little research/ google fu) that 2011 was its last year. Better check CL, EB, or similars. Good luck, and keep us posted.

I just watched one on ebay go for over $1400. It appears there is quite a demand for these bikes.

They were manufactured as late as 2018, the all platinum w cpl orange stripes. I've seen 2019 and 2020 listed as available but essentially it's just the 2018. But yeah, not sure cannondale makes them, dealers rarely carry them except as trade ins, and most dealers I saw around 2017 were unloading them for 500, when Cannondale was selling them 1100 new. They now go for 1500 to 2000 on ebay, usually within an hour unless it's really old.
