Friday is my day off, I got out today for a little over 42 miles, felt good, could have kept going but it was getting dark and I was getting hungry. Went through some real nice areas of SE CT.

Wet and windy 60km, hard slog out was worth 50kmh (at times) run back thanks to a strong tailwind.

Thursday, I met my wife and mother in law for dinner. I surprised them by telling them I rode my bike there, 32 miles. Time was short, so I hauled butt the whole way, never resting. All but about seven miles was along bike trails, so there were lots of cyclists, and only two passed me along the whole way, so that made me feel strong.

Another ride with the misses today but instead of riding solo, I did the 12 mile ride with her. Slow and leisurely ride with temps in the 70's and an overcast sky.

?When is pushing a bike uphill totally cool?

1. When you're not doing it, and

2. When everyone else is because they are rookie riders just getting started with this hobby.

I went out to Floyd Park today to do some very slow riding. There were scores of new riders out there, taking advantage of the lovely setting and the beginner terrain.

Where there was a 4% gradient, you could count on seeing people pushing their bikes up. It made me feel like Jens Voigt.

I said nothing, just a terse nod of the head. Nothing annoys me more than some roadie shouting "encouragement" to me when I'm in death throws.

Anyway, to all who turned off their TVs, put down their potato chips, and got on their bikes: brothers and sisters, I salute you.

Short 21 miler today with a friend. Great cool temps and no wind. I felt great before I started, not too good half an hour into it and then much better at the end. Weird.

36 miles before meeting the guys, 45 miles with them at times pushing 27mph then another 20 miles on my own. In 5 weeks from now I'll still be on the road completing the marathon portion of my Ironman providing I finish the swim. Rode way to hard today considering I have 18 miles of pavement pounding and 3500 yards swimming tomorrow morning.

Coeur d'Alene Fondo - bailed after 37 very wet and cold miles. I'll live to ride another day . . . In the sunshine, preferably.

Rode the 100K at the Lighthouse Century (Morro Bay, CA). Relatively flat ride (1800'), headwinds and tailwinds. The tale of the tape: 64 miles @16.3 mph which isn't bad considering I've only ridden 8 times all month. This sort of pathetic dedication to cycling will cease and desist on October 31, 2013 after which I'm officially retired

I rode my very first organized group ride today. My personal longest ride. 56.7 miles and 5344ft climbing.
https://ridewithgps.com/routes/3441260

It was fun and tiring. 3 food/rest stops plus a few more stops to group up with my friends at the top of hills. The overall ride had about 100 people and lots of good energy food at the rest stops and a nice buffet dinner and music group at the finish line. I was surprised at the $65 price until I saw what was involved.
In two weeks I'm going for a 72mile group ride.

Had a pretty good fitness ride today even though I didn't have as much energy as I thought I would when I started. Did 51 mi with some hill repeats. I added back full weight to my bike (36 lbs) which made it a little harder.

I rode up on Skyline Drive in Shenandoah NP on Saturday, thinking it might be my last chance for awhile because of the coming (probable) government shutdown. I figured traffic might not be too bad because the leaves have really only just started to turn. But it was pretty bad. I can't imagine what it will be like during the peak period. I rode from Elk Wallow south to Loft Mountain and back. Traffic was worst around Big Meadows/Skyland, and a little better south of there.

The worst was not distracted leaf peepers though. It was the horrible car clubs. There was a group of about 20 Dodge Chargers that would come by revving their engines, passing too close, and just generally acting like jackwads. They must have passed me 9 or 10 times. There were other car rally clubs, including the Corvettes, and even a clan of Suzuki Samurai's, or some weird thing. Then of course there were the usual obnoxious loud motorcycle riders.

The weather kind of sucked too. It was supposed to be 70 and mostly sunny, but it was overcast the whole day, and the temperature never got above 55. I ended up with 111 miles, and 10.3K of climbing.

45 miles with 3300 feet of climbing in the east bay hills with the local group. Everyone kept talking about the "fall weather" It was in the 70's most of the ride.

Another gorgeous day in Florida today. Rode 57 miles with my riding buddy before the shoulder that he recently had surgery on decided it was done for the day.
