Post war nostalgia Part 3
A little bit different this time - the big H...or is it? Appears to be 1950s Mk II Magnum Opus - certainly lugs are all correct as confirmed by VCC Hetchins expert, but no serial number on rear drop out or on fork steerer. Refurbished and resprayed in 80s, when the rear was spread and at least to my eyes looks like new fork steerer added. Awaiting some more info from both the seller and refurbishment business, but in the meantime it had all moving parts cleaned and freshly greased and off we went for few miles today. Lovely ride, and those RX100 hubs are smooth as butter, shifting is crisp and braking nice and firm when needed. Really functional bike, rather than a wall ornament some of these have become. bars and levers need adjustment, saddle will be swapped for another leather type, also needs slightly longer stem and perhaps nice tan wall tyres as those Schwable Blizzard feel a bit sluggish to me, perhaps they weigh more than they should...
Magnum Opus or Magnum Bogus, I'm happy either way. Now, do I stick that black Shimano 105 7000 groupset on it for full modern conversion, or keep as is......what say you?

Cool find. I might be tempted to keep the existing parts. No, they're obviously not period correct but they are very functional.

Will your mileage on the bike be different with the different hardware? If so, my reco is to pick the one that will encourage you to ride more miles.

Wonderful bike and a wonderful picture. That is a bike that I've always admired. I say dress her out the way YOU want and just enjoy the ride. Whatever that ends up being.
