BR-R7000 Compatibility
Hey,
I am thinking about changing brake calipers from Claris BR-R2000 to 105 BR-R7000. I checked "Dealers Manual" for 105 brakes and unfortunately my Control Lever ST-R2000 is not listed as compatible.
Strange is that in another Shimano "Compatibility" document my lever and 105 brakes are marked as correct combination.
What do you think? Do you have any experience with combination of low end lever and mid range brake caliper?
Is it worth to buy 105? I like "sharp" brakes ( habit from MTB).

It may have just been an older document. The 2019-2020 compatibility manual shows them as being compatible. Usually, the only thing that would keep them from being incompatible is different cable pull ratios, which could lead to sub-optimal braking, but I don't think that they've changed that for a few generations (x600-to-x700, iirc).

I did a similar change, but Claris -> Ultegra 6800. I also switched the pads to Coolstop Salmon.
The brakes are better, especially in the cold and wet. I bought the calipers used on Ebay for cheap and I'm not upset with the price/performance.
However, they are nowhere near as good as modern hydraulic disks and I've relegated the bike to nasty weather commuting.

Nice to hear that it is working properly. Probably I will order BR-7000 today. I thought about changing pads, but when pads are more expensive than caliper, it does not make sense for me. Poor caliper with nice pads is still poor caliper with all disadvantages.
Yep, my main bike is MTB with good hydraulic brakes setup. Braking power is huge, you have to stick to the bike.
