Why do you guys have this? I asked a question on this and it was never responded. Why don't you just get rid of this?

I thought it to be a type of spam rather than a feature of the forum. I click the corner to reduce it to the bottom.

It shows up on my Windows PC but not on my Mac. I too reduce it to the bottom. Wish there was a setting to eliminate it entirely--and yes I do have pop-ups blocked.

That answers it. I was going to respond with a question --- WTF are you talking about? since I had no idea what the OP was referencing, but I guess that logged in members don't see that.

In any case, I logged out, the feature popped up, I asked a question ---- "does this actually work?", then I was asked to register or sign in and sure enough it started a thread.

So, question for the OP, what's the problem?

My guess is that it's supposed to help lurkers get over the hump into active participation. Personally, I don't need any encouragement to ask dumb questions.

The complainers above are logged in, they just haven't paid for membership.

I'm ten years into a thirty year membership. I think I paid $25. I don't think they offer that deal anymore.

I'm a paid member, but I still get that "ask a question" popup. What's membership got to do with it?

Paid membership is supposed to eliminate the ads. I have never seen the one in question. Maybe something is wrong with your profile. Maybe I'm just wrong.

Widgets are always a bad idea. I have a feeling it was added automatically by some new software. Somebody may get around to removing it someday. But you can always just block qbox.

I don't know what way there is to ask a question on the site, other than what you just did, type a question in a box and press "send."

If you didn't get a response, there could be several reasons:
1. you asked it in a forum where people think the topic does not belong.
2. your question was worded in a way that made it hard to understand.
3. In discussing your question, maybe you answered it yourself
4. maybe your tone did not indicate a willingness to discuss and analye the question and its results.

I'm sure there are other possible reasons as well.

Usually, keep the grammar and word choices as clear and clean as you can, and you/ll spark a decent dialog.

FWIW -

The Op has started dozens of threads with questions, all of which seems to have had responses.

So, I don't understand the beef.

In any case, he needs to understand that he's asking for help from strangers, who would be responding from the goodness of their hearts. As such, nobody owes him anything, and instead of griping about answers he didn't get, he might appreciate the ones he did.

Perhaps if the OP put his question in the correct sub-forum an answer from the moderators or administrator would provide an answer. It seems that the OP posts his "questions", and then fade from the resulting replies.

+1 for using clear language and structure that could be understood better. Maybe then they would get results.

If you aren't a paid member you are going around the revenues BF gets for the ads. We live on those. I can't tell you not to necessarily but it's not the Cowboy Way.
