Diamond pattern on rim on Rigida Superchromix
Have a pair of Rigida Superchromix wheels that I recently took off an old Kalkhoff bike. Was wondering if there is a specific term for the diamond pattern on the rim?

Hello,
I don't know the proper term, and know you did not ask but....Those hatch marks were put there to provide extra stopping in wet weather.
A little outdated and not very good stopping power in the rain or damp conditions....if only riding on warm dry days
O.K. but anything else be careful. Chrome and water, not your friends for stopping.

I would call them "terrifying", especially in the wet. While "designed" to improve braking in wet weather, the dimples (or whatever) effectively held water, paying it out and increasing stopping distances over plain-sided chromed rims. Neither were any fun!

From an automotive application, knurling is a process the deforms the material to raise the effective surface. It is often used on used pistons skirts to reduce piston slap when rebuilding an engine.
The surface of the braking surface is not raised as a knurling process results.
The dimpling may be a result of an embossing process but "dimpled surface" is an engineering term for the resulting surface.
