Atom is a French company - a competitor with Suntour.

So is the Atom 77 French or English thread? If it is French I would like it.

Every one I've had pass through my hands has been English threaded.

Atom was a French brand, but that doesn't mean this particular Atom freewheel is French threaded. It's quite likely not French threaded. If you've got any English bottom bracket adjustable cups handy, try threading it into the freewheel. If you can thread it into the freewheel without forcing it, the freewheel isn't French.
As you might expect, Sheldon has more info on freewheel threading.
