After a long day of chores and roller skating with the family, I squeezed in 15 miles at sunset on the Marinoni, including 6 1-mile intervals alongside the airport.



unfortunately, a problem I thought I had fixed, reappeared on the steep climb home. It auto-shifts to second gear on steep climbs when I'm really giving it the beans. Back to the drawing board.

Last friday I ride the Val Rendena bike path for about 80 km and a total height gain of 1300 m. Nice weather, sunny and mountain still covered with show.


The Caré Alto peak (over 3400 m height) behind my mtb Rendez Vous of year 1992 (a french firm). I ride it from more than 30 years and it go still fast. It's a 7005 alu frame with RST 381R front suspension fork.

After a couple o f weeks of non riding weather 4 foot snow storm fallowed by freezing and 70mile winds over the weekend.. I got to finally take short ride to town today the back roads and trail are going to be a no go for another week at least.


Still a lot of snow, ice and mud in places.


I could actually see South Park City for the first time in several months no 20ft snow pile.

With rain forecast for part of the day yesterday I decided to go ahead and ride taking a good rain jacket in case I got caught in it.

I took my own sunshine with me in the form of my bike, a vintage Schwinn Cimarron, powder coated bright sunshine yellow.

It has fat Continental Urban tires (26x2.20) on it which are very smooth rolling and help absorb the bumps of rough streets.

Those are vintage Suntour ratcheting bar end shifters on it, ever so smooth.

I managed 40 miles in low 60's temps with only about 20 minutes of it in rain on Tuesday after the eclipse.

This was another trip riding to downtown Dallas and back.
I enjoy rides like this just seeing a different area than the suburbs.
There is tremendous growth in this area and all over the Dallas - Ft Worth area really. One wonders how many 200 to 300 unit apartments or condos are needed. They pop up all over the area, dozens upon dozens of them.

It was overall a good ride and a good day to be out and about on a bike even with the heavy overcast and some rain.

I'm on the Continental Bridge which has been converted to a pedestrian, bike, etc bridge over the Trinity River. The Arch in background is on the Margaret Hill Hunt Bridge which now handles auto traffic the Continental Bridge handled in years past. Downtown Dallas in background.

Thanksgiving Square... Really worth seeing should you find yourself in downtown Dallas. When I worked downtown I would occasionally take my lunch there and eat. It provides a peaceful respite from the hustle and bustle of downtown.

Hi rise buildings abound. It's not a really huge downtown like New York and Chicago and doesn't even compare but it's not tiny either and has its own unique vibe. It has grown so much since I retired it's a different world down there.

We saw the eclipse from up in The Colony. Didn't bring a bike because I figured I wouldn't have much time for riding. Yesterday we drove downtown on our way out and came through here westbound and across the river. Dealey Plaza was very busy with tourists in spite of the weather.

Beautiful day today. Bicycle commuted on my 1982 Trek 720 up to UCSD medical school to perform as a standardized patient. As I was locking up, I noticed a girl (and, yes, I am a boy - I was on my bike after all) smiling to herself as she observed me locking up. I'm guessing she has a grandpa who is a cyclist.

Warmest day of the year so far and I took off to enjoy it. Decided to get in the maiden ride on the Moser Leader Ax I bought this winter. Rode it pretty much as I got it with just a saddle swap. Put in a little over 26 miles on it. Realized I need to tweak the FD at it's angled in too much. The bike did fine otherwise and was pretty smooth for most of the ride. The roughest section of broken up pavement was a bit harsh. I grabbed a lot of pictures but realized when I got home that I had the P&S camera still setup for macro. So everything was out of focus. Without my reading glasses I didn't notice while out on the road. I guess it's time to rewrap the bars with white tape and decide on what brake levers to put on this one.

The snowmelt is now going strong. This inlet will probably all under water by next weekend if not this one.

Back out this morning on the Gianni Motta, such a pretty bike! Took better pics today as I just cruised along my normal route. I earned every shot today. Each time I stop to take a picture I was guaranteed to have sharp pain in the right knee for the first couple of strokes as I start off. Not sure why this replaced knee is not working right. When I took off from the final picture picture stop my right foot "weirded out" as the pain kicked in and I hit my heel hard under the chainstay. I've never had that happen before.

The weather was nice today, albeit with a strong wind. So Mrs non-fixie and I decided on a ride after work. She was on her Snel, to which I'd fitted Nitto Grand Raundoneur (sic) bars and guidonnet brake levers.

Repeated last week’s ride with a couple short steep climbs to force myself to ride at threshold. Only .32 and .87 miles each avg. 12 and 14% but some parts 19 percent. A little faster than last week.

Spaghetti Legs 

Not much riding recently, between some travel, bad weather, and minor illness. Nice and sunny today but gale force winds made the riding a little tougher. UVA kids were in full force partying which also made the going slower through grounds. Short ride around town on the Merckx Pro. Not too many miles under my arse on this one but it does have a Cino on its palmares.

Back out again this morning. This time on the Pinarello. Started out riding pretty fast but then got caught up in just enjoying the weather and shooting pictures. Once I got over to Huntsville I never really made it out of the town itself. Just rode around shooting the scenes and finding pleasure in the time out.
