147mm vs 160mm Axle Length?

Is 147mm for single-speed? (My dropouts are 114mm.)

Bolt-on, or quick release? Also, what is the threading on your axle?

If your rear dropouts are spaced at 114mm, your bike most likely came with a coaster-brake or 3-speed hub originally. If you want to run derailleur gears, you'll need to respace it to at least 120mm.

The axle is usually about 11mm longer than the OLD. I am guessing that 147mm axle is for a 135mm MTB hub

It's actually a British vintage hub. A 4-speed freewheel will definitely not fit, here, being 7/8" wide. No room on the drive-side axle end for a claw, either.

These are solid axles with British 26tpi threading.

looks like a track/fixed gear hub with that stepped threading

Yep, it does.., but I thought I could cheat with a gear that was a little wider. The short axle length caught me by surprise.

I would leave that hub for fixed gear service.
