Hard hit. I'll go out on a limb and say that this accident happened on a winding mountain road (note background), at a curve with a blind spot. Cyclist was probably VC'ing through the inside curve whilst a motorist traveling in the opposite direction took his half out of the middle. Instant head-on.

one time i was on a schwinn traveler and hit a car while i was looking at something. i was going about 12 mph, and nothing happened to that bike.
another time, i was riding my dads panasonic (1000dx?) behind my friend at night. i would say we were going around 17-18mph. he swerved to the left and i hit the parked car. my dad's bike looked exactly like the rivendell. i ended up on the trunk and was totally fine. at least until i showed my dad his bike.

I have a ding that looks like my Le Tour got hit pretty hard. but really it is just superficial damage on that frame. I am convinced I can ghost ride this bike into a brick wall without much harm done. That picture is just crazy.
