Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

I don't know what the percentage is (I doubt anyone really knows) but when I am driving I see a great number of drivers texting. Slowish freeway traffic I would guess 50% texting.
Another casual observation: carpool lane use is approximately 50% solo drivers. And 15mph over the limit is now normal when traffic is moving.

Kitchen is on the 5 year plan Still need to do the lowers, but that's somewhat back burner, right now. My daughter is growing too fast, so making her bed is a bigger priority, at this time.

The shop has expanded, the significant addition is a CNC machine. Took delivery of it about a week and a half ago, and still working through the learning curve while continuing to build out the table (wasteboard grid, various clamps, boom arm for dust control hose and router power cord, etc). It's pretty friggin' sweet. The intent with the machine is to expand capabilities, simplify many operations, and monetize the woodworking endeavor in to a small business.

Excellent on the family, and awesome on the expanded tool supply. I read of a CNC machine? That's way cool! I look forward to the goodies once you're versed in the operation. I hope the proposed small business fires off with minimal hiccups.

Humans and dogs are doing just fine. Thank you for asking.

Backlash?

I was quite disappointed there was no duck depicted on it. Possibly worth protesting over. Road blockading is the trending thing to do.

Couple photos of last week's ITT. They put the photographer right near the S/F area which sucks because you need to leave aero a bit to navigate traffic. I promise I look better on other parts of the island.

More TTT practice this morning, one more session in a couple weeks before district champs. We were... sloppy. Still have another practice to tighten up ship.

bam says you were asking about my beans? I've been doing a lot of HappyMug, lately - they're one of the few roasters that I've come across that have reasonable shipping charges ($3 or free with orders over $40, I think). I'm mostly in to the lighter roasts and primarily natural processing - I like stuff with berry notes that come through in the cup, and light/natural has had the highest hit rate in that regard. Light can be tricky with espresso, though; I could never get it right before getting the lever machine - always sour.

The CNC is super cool. It's weird doing so much "woodworking" at the computer, but it suits me, so far.

That looks uncomfortable. Fast, but uncomfortable. I guess it's good TTs are relatively short.

Conference in Boston is winding down. Time to get to the airport and waita few hours. At least I did get some seafood while here - lobster rolls, oysters, crab, fish & chips with nice moist, flaky fish. The fries were... okay. The fish was good.

Next stop, Rockville, REM's warning notwithstanding.

We used to have a CNC at work. Very cool machine. We would use it to make custom synthesis or characterization mounts for R&D projects.

The guy who built my road frame got one for his shop. He went to a community college at night to learn how to use it. Looked really neat. I wish I had seen him operating it.

Mrs got a pic of the old bastard in the yard. He's feeling his age, been to the doc twice recently for respiratory infections. I think the vet was trying to tell us not to expect too much more. He still plays and runs around a little.

I thought that was the point of an ITT. how to suffer in the shortest time possible.

This guy was having trouble walking and couldn't jump up on the couch. Vet said it was nerve issues due to diabetes and if we started him on insulin he might last a year. Instead, we changed his diet and he lost a lot of weight and can jump and even run. It's been a year and a half. I guess we're lucky to have him this long.
