A wheel magnet is a wheel magnet, right?
I have a Polar CS600 computer on my bike and it was working fine until I upgraded my wheelset and the wheel magnet from my old wheels won't fit the new ones because of different spoke design. I went to the LBS with the new wheel and got a magnet from a Sigma computer. Couldn't get it to work plus it's big and bulky and looks ugly IMO. I went to another LBS and they sold me a Cateye one, but it doesn't work either. I took the complete bike in and they even fitted it while I waited, so it's definitely not me putting it on wrong! So, how do I fix this and make it work?

Are you quite certain? I would think that a hall effect sensor would be much less prone to mechanical interference (read: vibration/shock) than a solid-state device that measures magnetic flux. Maybe get a cateye magnet on there and then stack a couple of neodymium magnets on that until you get a reading (this would effectively bring the magnets closer to the sensor). you can get these magnets at harbor freight or northern tool, etc.

You need one of those lightweight CF or Ti magnets

Remove the Polar magnet from it's old holder and tape it to the spoke. Once you get it positioned correctly, you might remove the tape and glue it in place.

...and more seriously.... make sure the Polar unit is working properly i.e. wave the Polar magnet over the sensor by hand and see if it activates the computer. If not, your problems lie elsewhere.

Inquiring minds want to know!
Never mind, I just looked it up. Very interesting.
I had never heard that term before... not that I'm conversant in switching technologies.
