Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

Campy Thumb Callus

I recently changed my riding style so I don't have to shift as much. How long will it take for the callus on my right thumb to return to normal? I use Campy Ergo shifters...

I have been using Campy Ergo shifters for four years and still no callus on my thumb. How long does it take to develop a callus?

this is another reason why shimano is better. it does not cause permanent injury.

Callus is hardly an injury. Nice try.

I've never gotten a callus from my shifters, though.

You don't shift enough. I wear out a set of G-springs every 3 weeks.

You're right, I don't shift a lot at all. Only when climbing.

Have you considered callus reduction surgery?

You're apparently an awesome rider my friend. Would you consider switching to shimano?

Research indicates that surgery is available only to enhance as opposed to reduce. At least, that's how it is here in Oregon.

Check out how hideous this is...

You sure the callus isn't caused by another vigorous activity? Just sayin........

And stop biting your nails.

You are right that is hideous. Is it possible that your callus came from some other method like your work or pumping iron at the gym?
