Ticking Bottombracket on KICKR

Last night I put my 2022 Specialized Sirrus X on my Wahoo KICKR since my normal road bike wasn't available. I needed to swap out the cassette since it is 12 speed. I got a terrible ticking coming from the bottom bracket area. It had been ticking some this weekend but not as loud. Also it ticks louder when pushing down hard on the pedals but not at all when lifting the pedals with hamstrings and hip flexors. Strange. Any idea why?

So from the information you provided

Your 2022 .Specialized Sirrus X 12 speed, began ticking this weekend out on the road.
Then Monday you placed it on the Kickr and the ticking got louder.
Because you have to change the cassette, we can assume it's a wheel off Kickr.
So it's not the rear wheel ticking.
Was it the same cassette on the road as on the Kickr?

We are going to need more info, but this will get you started.

Some Possible Causes
Tick is synchronized with crank revolution regardless of gear selected.
BB
Pedal
Chainring bolt
Does it happen once or twice per crank revolution?

Tick is synchronized with rotation of wheel.
Cassette
Spoke (s)
How many times does it occur per wheel revolution?

Tick is every 3-4 rotations of Crank
Chain

Does it still tick out of the saddle?
On the kickr, does it still tick hands off the bars?

Maybe the tick has been there awhile and you just now are noticing in the quiet and boredom of riding on a trainer.

Have you checked the chain ring bolts? One person recently found they needed to tighten theirs more than the recommended torque to silence them. Since you say this only happens with power, chain ring bolts will be my first suspect. Then again there are pedals too that can be suspect if it's only once per stroke with power.

Are there any wires showing? Is your wife or anyone else very mad at you?

Sorry, I couldn't resist, but you do have me a bit confused.

Wahoo has a few versions of KICKRs that are VERY different in concept. Since you mentioned transferring the cassette, I'll assume that you have the version where you use your bike, with the trainer replacing the rear wheel.

If so, the issue may be as simple as your failure to properly tighten the cassette lockring. Or, the rocking motion as you pedal has the dropouts squirming on the axle, and tightening the QR might help. Those are my first instincts, since you didn't mention the bike creaking before.

Keep in mind that the seeming origin of noises can be misleading, and it's not rare for "BB" sounds to come from different places. Also keep in mind that the first question you should ask yourself when a new issue arrives----- what changed?

So, the cassette, the mounting onto the trainer, and what else?

Lastly, keep in mind that out on the road your bike moves with you, but can't on a trainer, so there'll be more frame & seatpost flex to consider.

There were some kickrs with a ticking problem from the flywheel pulley. They solved that by using a better bolt. But that didnt' really help because they still used the wrong key. They solved that on new ones by peening the pulley over on the key.
Still don't use the right size key for some reason.

There is plenty of info about the ticking problem on the web.

Fixed. The bike bottom bracket needed a bit more pre-load.
