Las Vegas Century Ride Oct 25th

Just wanted everyone to know there IS going to be a Las Vegas Century this year. The Las Vegas Valley Cycling Club isn't putting it on but the REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION CENTER IS........Here's a little snippet from the email:

Yes, indeed, the RTC is organizing and coordinating this year's
Century Ride. The RTC, the After-School All Stars and Outback
Steakhouse are hosting the ride which is designed to expose
the "adventurous" side of Las Vegas. Featuring challenging
elevations, police ******* and some rolling closures on streets along
118-mile, 50-mile, 25-mile and five mile courses which cris-cross the
valley…this ride is gonna be awesome.{By the way, the last 20 miles
of the 108 miler are downhill :-)}.

We have enlisted the assistance of the El Tour De Tucson producer to
review what we've done so far, and to offer suggestions for
improvements. We felt improvements could be made over last year's
event and because this event is so important to our cycling
community, we wanted to make sure there was an event to ride in. We
know this will be a building year, so bear with us as we strive to
make each year better and better.

So mark your calendars - OCTOBER 25TH !!!!

I'm thinking about doing this as my first century ever. Does this event usually sell out or do I have a little bit of time to register? Now I gotta get out there and start upping my mileage!

You have time......in the past the century was put on by the the las vegas valley cycling club but now the RTC is going to do a fabulous job. Make sure you also check out the Perini Green Weekend - they are sponsoring a metric century on the 12th of October that starts on the strip.

What is the typical pace for rides like this? I'm interested in the 50 mile loop, if it's my speed.

I'll be doing the quarter along with a buddy. I had hoped to have my Peugeot ready, but it looks like I'll be riding my Trek commuter instead. This will be my first (quarter)century.

There will be all kind of riders and paces. Since it heads up Charleston past the scenic overlook down to Mcghies Outpost rest stop......you will start off with the 25 milers which are usually first time riders and families.......so they don't move fast at all but they turn around b4 the climb. You will find many of the 50 milers can sprint up Charleston pretty fast.....you will find someone your speed....not to worry.

Congratulations .... if you're feeling good - keep going and it could possibly turn into a half century...

Thanks!
