Road Cycling “It is by riding a bicycle that you learn the contours of a country best, since you have to sweat up the hills and coast down them. Thus you remember them as they actually are, while in a motor car only a high hill impresses you, and you have no such accurate remembrance of country you have driven through as you gain by riding a bicycle.” -- Ernest Hemingway

We wouldn’t be able to fill all the seats in some situations. So over the course of the rest of the year they will weigh random passengers to get an accurate average for aircrews to use.

If they have the right-of-way, I tell them to take it. Sometimes in terms that cannot be repeated here.

If I ever flew, I should get a discount.

Like I said, they're sitting in a dark room, behind a big reflective surface, and I might not see their hand, and it shouldn't be my responsibility to look for it. I, OTOH, am out in the open. If I do a headwag, it's visible. If I wave my hand, it's visible. But in any case there's a RULE for determining right of way.

You may wonder how I know he blew through at least two stop signs while I was stopped. I know, because I passed him 3 times.

This drives me around the friggin' bend. You want to be a pedestrian, following the rules for pedestrians? Get off the bike and walk it.

I'm sure that there's a spectrum of reasons that people defer, but we know that it's not because they see us as equals and it's unlikely that most do it because they see us as superiors. Meanwhile, is it really a courtesy that they're providing? In the amount of time that it takes to do the "you go. No, you go" routine, we could have both put the intersection behind us. Sometimes, the most polite thing to do is to get the hell out of the way.

Ah, so adding the potential for more confusion makes a bad situation better? Good to know.

Exactly. It's an intersection governed by laws, not a door you force others to go through first, to be 'polite'.

I keep forgetting that I'm supposed to be feeling like ****. Got the second shot this morning. Just did a ~3 mile walk/circuit of grocery stores, now cooking per usual. If I'm going to feel fine all afternoon/evening, I'd better not wake up feeling like microwaved dog poo in the morning and have to skip my Wed ride.

Of course. Also, everyone has their own idea about how long a rest stop should be. I say less than 5 minutes, enough to eat a snack, fill bottles, and use the restroom.

They are great with the right people, especially smaller groups. Or big groups if everything goes smoothly and nobody gets their bibs in a bunch.

That's uncivilized.
